Requirements of the Registered Nurse (RN) Infection Control Specialist/Staff Educator:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with effective leadership & supervisory skills in a long-term care setting 2 years
  • Certification Required-Infection Preventionist
  • Must have experience supervising, managerial and practices of teaching.
  • Must have knowledge of state and federal regulations

Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse (RN) Infection Control Specialist/Staff Educator:

  • Report all reportable diseases to the county and state health departments
  • Assist with in-services on wound prevention, wound care, ostomy care, and incontinence for the nursing staff.
  • Participate in planning, conducting, and scheduling in-service training classes for CNAs/GNAs and any other nursing personnel that provide instructions on “how to do the job,” and ensure a well-educated nursing service department.
  • Assist in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished.
  • Assist in training department personnel in identifying tasks that involve potential exposure to blood or body fluids.
