Job Summary:

Performs the primary functions of a registered nurse in assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of all assigned patients.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the care of the patient and assesses and addresses the needs of the patient/family.
  • Works collaboratively with other interprofessional team members in resolving patient/family problems, concerns and issues.
  • Collaborates with other departments as needed to establish the patient/family treatment plan.
  • Individualizes, implements, evaluates or updates the plan of care and patient educational needs regarding vascular access.
  • Possesses the ability to complete intravenous insertion and assessment to include peripheral and central line access.
  • Utilizes equipment such as point of care ultrasound equipment and intravenous infusion pumps as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates proper interpretation of department specific policies and related laboratory results to safely manage specific patient needs.
  • Implements, monitors and records patient care and communicates patient condition as appropriate. Takes appropriate actions to unanticipated changes in patient condition.
  • Utilizes the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to access treatment and therapy plans.
  • Applies the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in health care to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient’s age-specific needs and clinical needs as described in the department's scope of service.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position and be in good general health. Ability to relate to and support individuals within the facility who are mentally/physically disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile. Ability to run at least one (1) flight of stairs to respond to emergency situations. Ability to assist in the evacuation of residents. Potential for exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including blood borne and air borne pathogens. May be required to wear personal protective equipment, up to and including, an N95 respirator.Knowledge of terminology, theory techniques and current standards of practice. Knowledge of medication, usage, effects, adverse reactions and contraindications. Ability to collaborate in development and implementation of a resident care. Ability to analyze data and information using established criteria. Ability to work collaboratively and cooperative with inter-disciplinary team and lead, assist and monitor the work of nursing personnel. Ability to communicate effectively with inter-disciplinary teams and families/guardians. Must be fluent in speaking and writing the English language in an understandable manner.
