As the VAD Patient Coordinator, you will be at the center of a cutting-edge program, guiding patients from evaluation through implantation and long-term support. You’ll serve as a clinical expert, educator, and advocate—ensuring exceptional outcomes for patients receiving ventricular assist devices.
This role impacts patient care with the following responsibilities:
Lead & Coordinate Advanced Patient Care
- Manage VAD patients throughout the full continuum: referral → pre-implant → surgery → discharge → long-term follow-up
- Oversee care coordination across multidisciplinary teams including cardiology, cardiac surgery, ICU, and community providers
- Serve as primary resource for patients and families, including 24/7 clinical and technical support
Clinical Expertise & Consultation
- Act as a recognized expert in VAD and heart failure care
- Support and guide clinical teams in applying evidence-based practices
- Perform patient evaluations, screenings, and candidate assessments
Education & Program Development
- Educate staff, patients, families, and community partners on VAD management
- Develop and deliver training and competency programs
- Collaborate on policies, procedures, and program improvements
Case Management & Operations
- Coordinate implant schedules, patient status updates, and readmissions
- Manage VAD equipment, supplies, and program logistics
- Maintain regulatory compliance with data reporting (FDA, hospital, registries)
Research & Innovation
- Serve as Study Coordinator or Co-Investigator in national VAD/heart failure studies
- Translate research into practice improvements
- Participate in regional and national cardiovascular forums
Required Qualifications
- RN license (Ohio)
- BSN (required)
- Minimum 2 years of clinical RN experience, including:
Cardiology or cardiac surgery background
- BLS & ACLS certification (or ability to obtain)
Preferred Experience
- Acute care (ICU, transplant, heart failure, or VAD)
- Experience in patient education and program development
- Strong understanding of regulatory and reporting requirements
