The Registered Nurse will be assigned to Milton Day Program, Highland and Gabriety IRA's. Milton Day Program will serve as the primary location for this position. Milton Day Program cares for 35 individuals with different medical needs. Highland IRA provides care for eight individuals with diverse medical and behavioral needs. Gabriety IRA provides care for five individuals with varying nursing requirements, including tasks that cannot be delegated to unlicensed direct care staff. The Registered Nurse may need to provide coverage at other locations within the team as necessary. OPWDD is the safety net provider to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. As such, we serve individuals with the highest level of medical and behavioral support needs. Nursing is critical to the safe care and oversight of these individuals. With an aging population, the individual's medical/nursing needs have increased and will continue to increase. The Registered Nurse role is essential to the health and safety of the individuals that we serve. Ensures compliance with the Taconic DDSO Policy/Procedures and regulatory compliance. The Registered Nurse provides medical/ nursing oversight to the assigned homes. The Registered Nurse serves as a member of the inter-disciplinary team. The RN provides clinical supervision to the LPN’s as well as nursing guidance/training to the Direct Support staff. The RN may be asked to provide coverage at other sites within the team if care is needed. The RN Nurse's role is essential to the health and safety of the individuals we serve. Ensuring the safety and well-being of the individuals we serve, the RN's responsibility ensures the individuals are healthy and able to experience personal growth fully participating in their health care and their lives in the community. Essentially, the goal of the RN is to help people with developmental disabilities live richer lives. To accomplish this, the RN will work towards increasing knowledge and delivering the highest quality support and services for Taconic's Individuals.

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.
° Thirteen (13) days of paid vacation leave initially.
° Five (5) days paid personal leave each year.
° Thirteen (13) days of paid sick leave each year (PEF/CSEA), which may carry over from year to year.
° Up to three (3) days professional leave each year to participate in professional development events.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Ensures compliance with the Taconic DDSOO Policy/Procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Schedules and attends appointments for increased medical acuity individuals, completes medication audits, provides treatments to the individuals and documents the provision of services, as reflected in their life plan, safeguard summary plan, etc.
- Completion of nursing procedures/tasks and nursing assessments
- Provides nursing care oversight, charts health status, transcribes physicians’ orders accurately, and ensures appropriate medication orders and follow up appointments are communicated within the IRA.
- Responsible for reviewing patient records, process incident reports when required, and collaborating with oversight and provider agencies on documentation, procedures, and follow-up actions.
- The RN will engage in various patient care activities, including assessing health issues, developing and implementing nursing care plans, and maintaining comprehensive medical documentation.
- The RN will administer care and provide guidance to patients on health maintenance and disease prevention.
- The RN is expected to acquire and sustain proficiency in all necessary administrative processes to effectively fulfill their responsibilities.
- Serves as a member of the inter-disciplinary team.
- Provides clinical supervision to LPN’s as well as nursing guidance to the Direct Support staff.
- Act as health liaison with medical consultants.
- Attend team reviews and present information as needed.
- Provide in-service health training to individuals, staff, and family.

- Please note that starting salary for this title reflects the increased hiring salary and geographic pay differential. Posted Hiring Salary includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 18 ($66,951), Increased Hiring Salary ($9,196) and Geographic Pay Differential ($35,000). Geographic Pay Differential is added to the job rate ($85,38).
- If you are currently a New York State employee serving in a permanent competitive qualifying title and eligible for a transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, you may be appointed to this title as a permanent competitive employee.
- The assignment of PS&T employees will be made in accordance with any agreed upon Memorandum of Understanding between PEF and the local DDSO regarding the posting of job vacancies.
