Position Hours: Three (3) 12-hour shifts 6:45 p.m. - 7:15 a.m. Rotating based on unit need. No specific workdays or days off can be guaranteed. We cannot guarantee accommodation of school schedules. Job Requirements Under direct supervision of a registered nurse, participates in the nursing process by delivering care to patients and their families. Assisting with patient admission and/or discharge by setting up special equipment and recording vital signs. Assisting with intravenous therapy by gathering equipment for starting IV fluids, preparing the patient as directed by the Registered Nurse and monitoring IV rate. Assists the Registered Nurse in patient status evaluation by reporting patient information such as vital signs or response to nursing actions such as pain management interventions. Verbally reports to the nurse significant changes in patient's physical and cognitive condition. Documents patient information such as vital signs, intake and output on appropriate forms promptly, clearly and completely as stipulated in the Nursing Documentation policy. The nurse graduate may administer medications under the DIRECT supervision of an RN. The nurse graduate may NOT administer medications independently. Performs CPR as needed. Follows institutional infection control guidelines. Follows/implements established institutional/unit policies and procedures to ensure patient safety. Communicates effectively with patients, families, visitors and other members of the health care team, demonstrating positive guest relations skills and treating patient information confidentially. A Brief Overview This RN position requires 12 months of previous RN work experience. Previous Oncology and Chemo administration experience is preferred. It is Part Time- 0.8- 32 hours a week. Hours are 8-4:30 with Thursdays off. Currently no weekends or holidays but could change to support clinic. This position is in NJ at Voorhees Specialty Care The Oncology Clinic and Day Hospital is in the Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care. Outpatient Oncology sees an average 100 patients per day, Monday-Friday 0730am-9pm. The clinic is closed on weekends and holidays however there is a phone triage nurse staffed every day, including holidays. Nurses partner with attending physicians, fellows and APPS to provide care to the patient population. Other areas within the clinic include, the general anesthesia procedure and recovery area, as well as day hospital infusion area. Bone marrow aspirates and lumbar punctures are performed daily therefore all nurses are PALS certified. The day hospital cares for both hematology and oncology patients, administering blood products and chemotherapy. Oncology clinic also functions as the ER for the oncology population daily until 6pm. All staff are proficient in PIV placement and central line care. This is a fast-paced dynamic area to work in with opportunities for growth and professional development. The Clinical Nurse practices at the level of an advanced beginner to expert practitioner of professional nursing in accordance with, and guided by the CHOP Nursing Professional Practice Model. The nurse at this level demonstrates competence in caring for patients and families and progresses to caring for those with the most complex problems/highest acuity in the designated clinical area. Provides age/developmentally appropriate care. Care is delivered through RN leadership for patient care within the framework of family-centered care. The Clinical Nurse adheres to the organizational and nursing department mission, vision, and values. S/he practices in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics; the ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice; practice standards of applicable specialty nursing organizations; and CHOP developed standards of nursing practice. The professional nurse practices within the defined scope of practice designated by the Nurse Practice Acts of Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey, depending on the assigned work site. Work Schedule Hours per week: 20 hours Shift/ Days/ Hours: Day shift; 8 hour shifts. Shift start/stop times vary from 9:00am- 5:30pm Location: Pediatric Cardiology Clinic and Procedure Area All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
