Repositioning, transporting and ambulating patients, providing patient hygiene and skin care needs, donning and doffing clothing, assisting patients with meals, recording intake and output, the collection of routine lab specimens, obtaining vital signs weights. Assisting patients with treatments and provides simple dressing changes when directed by the RN. The Nurse Assistant utilizes infection control practices including use of Standard Precautions for all patient contracts. The NA duties include maintaining a clean and safe patient and work environment. Observes and promptly reports changes in mentation, health status and safety to the Registered Nurse. Assumes professional accountability, utilizes established policy and procedure to assist the RN to implement and modify any individualized plan of care. The Certified Nursing Assistant utilizes age related patient care protocol to complete assigned tasks. Maintains and demonstrates clinical competence through timely completion of required competencies and educational offerings. In addition, this role includes reception duties, i.e.; answering phones, providing family and visitor directions, helping physicians find chart reports, transcribing physician orders, assembling patient charts, calling physician offices for consult and patient appointments. Requires the use of multi-line telephone system, fax and copy machines, computer and paging systems. Requires knowledge of department supplies and equipment. Maintains and restock patient work rooms. Must have strong communication skills, including English usage, to collaborate with other health care team members. Must be organized and have the ability to prioritize work, must know medical terminology. Requires ability to do detailed work correctly, function under and handle stress. Expected to provide quality customer service. Must know how to use organization policies and procedures.
