This position requires giving chemotherapy, biotherapy, clinical trials infusion, and other infusion-related services, as well as blood work, dressing change, and injections in a fast-paced outpatient infusion center setting. This position requires the ability to respond to and handle urgent medical emergencies. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously, consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing. Current California RN license. BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date. ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy certification with recent experience (within the last 6 months). Minimum one (1) year of recent (within the last 6 months) oncology infusion center or acute care oncology experience actively administering a wide variety of chemotherapy regimens and corresponding knowledge of oncology diagnoses and treatments. Overview Infusion Nurse Willamette Valley Cancer Institute and Research Center – Central Oregon’s largest private Cancer Care Clinic group, is looking for an exceptional Registered Nurse (RN) to join the infusion team at their Corvallis, OR location. This RN would focus on caring for our patients receiving infusion therapies. IV skills are crucial for success in this role and having prior oncology experience is a plus. Assesses patients for changes in condition, including but not limited to abnormal labs, x-rays, scans, drug reactions and initiates appropriate action. Completes all chemotherapy charge forms. Assures pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administration of therapies. Demonstrates knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use and maintenance, cleaning pumps after use, and proper documentation of pump usage. Facilitates dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management. Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central lines catheter devices. Administers all medications/blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time and technique. Displays appropriate technical skills for the administration of chemotherapy, medications and blood products, to include, but not limited to: venipuncture, central line access and infusion devices. Programs portable infusion pumps for continuous drug delivery and provides instruction to the patient and/or caregiver in the use of the pump at home. Documents nursing assessments, patient teaching and fluid and medication administration in the patient chart. Communicates all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician. Assures nursing charges are accurate and complete on patient fee slips. Acts as a resource person to the medical assistants. Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patients chart. Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional material. Demonstrates awareness of community resources available to patients and assists with referrals if necessary. Effectively and timely communicates with Option Care’s Clinical team, medical providers, patients, and families/caregivers to facilitate continuity of care. Prepares clinical documentation in real-time during visits and submits to the nursing department to comply with established timelines for billing optimization. Completes all documentation legibly and applies approved abbreviations and documentation error correction practices per Option Care’s policy. Coordinates discharge planning and prepares discharge summaries with patient instructions and thoroughly reports patient care needs, progress and goals when transferring care. Demonstrates compliance with agency operations, Option Care’s policies and procedures, professional standards, local, state, federal regulations/guidelines, and accreditation standards. Maximizes work efficiency through the use of computers and other automation technologies to validate plan of treatment orders, communicates patient care provided, and follows assigned visit schedule.
