Summary Statement

The LPN, a Licensed Practical Nurse, is sometimes referred to as a vocational nurse. LPNs are health care providers who are tasked with providing direct care to their patients. They are responsible in providing to the daily basic needs of patients including administering medication and treatments and maintain close communication with their supervisors, the RNs. If patients have minor wounds, LPNs perform wound cleaning and dressing changes. LPNs will check patients' hydration and food intake. They assist patients with hygiene and ADLs.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.

• Administers treatments as directed.
• Takes and records vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration).
• Pours, administers, charts and records medications.
• Gives prescribed intramuscular and subcutaneous injections and inoculations.
• Observes patient behavior and condition and reports changes to appropriate staff.
• Records information on patients' charts.

JOB REQUIREMENTS For Licensed Practical Nurse I

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

• Possession of a Delaware Practical Nurse license, Delaware temporary license or multi-state compact license.

JOB REQUIREMENTS For Licensed Practical Nurse II

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

• Possession of a Delaware Practical Nursing license or multi-state compact license.
• At least six months' experience as a Practical Nurse.

JOB REQUIREMENTS For Licensed Practical Nurse III

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

• Possession of a Delaware Practical Nursing license or multi-state compact license.
• At least eighteen months' experience as a Practical Nurse.

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.

Conditions of Hire

All new hires are required to attend an in-person, statewide mandatory New Employee Orientation on their first day of employment. The session will be held at a designated location in either Kent or New Castle County.

A satisfactory criminal background check is required and must be covered by the applicant, with an estimated cost of $85.00. Pre-employment drug testing is also required. Additionally, all new hires are required to complete a 2-Step TB/PPD test, which will be administered on their first day at the facility.

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicable terms and conditions of employment, in accordance with Title 29, Chapter 59 and Title 19, Chapter 13 and 16.This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
