Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the hospital-based outpatient infusion unit provides safe, evidence-based nursing care to patients receiving intravenous therapies. The RN is responsible for patient assessment, medication administration, monitoring for adverse reactions, patient education, and coordination of care in accordance with physician orders, organizational policies, and regulatory standards. The position will be Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm, and a call requirement every 5th weekend for scheduled, time-sensitive infusion therapies.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments prior to infusion therapy.
- Administer intravenous medications, biologics, blood products, hydration therapy, and injections according to established protocols.
- Administer chemotherapeutic agents to inpatient patients as needed.
- Monitor patients during and after infusion for adverse reactions or complications.
- Initiate and maintain peripheral IV lines and access central venous devices when indicated and within scope of practice.
- Respond appropriately to infusion reactions or emergencies.
- Verify medication orders for accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness.
- Educate patients and families regarding: Infusion therapy, potential side effects, post-treatment care, and when to seek medical attention.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in outpatient infusion or infusion therapy nursing.
- Certification such as CRNI (Certified Registered Nurse Infusion).
- Familiarity with infusion therapy standards and best practices.
- WKHS Chemotherapy certification
