We specialize in caring for children experiencing acute and chronic neurological and respiratory illnesses, recovery of extensive surgical interventions and severe infections, in addition to failure of one or more body organ systems. The PICU at Children’s St. Paul is a 12-bed unit for critically ill patients and their families. We care for patients along the continuum of acute recovery to provide for their changing physical and emotional needs as we prepare them to return home. Our patient population requires complex care, including hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, maintenance of systemic perfusion and management of organ failure. Our team balances a highly technical skill set with a family-centered approach.
