Overview
The Nurse Extern works under the direct supervision of the RN Preceptor assigned to them, as well as the Nurse Manager and/or the Director of Nursing. All of the following must be done with the direct supervision and validation of the RN Preceptor. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Demonstrates and displays an understanding of psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family. Adheres to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served.

What you will do

  • Provides personal care of patients and their environment (to include those with special precautions. Performs specified functions and tasks based on validated competency by licensed nurse to include but not limited to: simple wound care, EKGs, peripheral INT Removal and basic phlebotomy.
  • Perform activities of daily living including hygiene, nutrition, and comfort activities under the direct supervision and guidance of the RN Preceptor. Maintains cleanliness and neatness of the patients' and unit's environment. Performs approved treatments and procedures accurately and safely.
  • Observes, gathers, and reports pertinent patient information including intake and output, daily weights, vital signs, pulse oximetry, and blood glucose.
  • Maintains a safe environment by following hospital and unit policies and procedures.


Qualifications

Education
