Position Summary: Assists in the delivery of patient care under the direction of the manager and physician.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares patient for exams and treatment. Takes history and vitals, utilizing principals of growth and development and age specific guidelines for particular age groups.
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies. Straightens rooms after each patients.
- Assists physician with, and in preparing for, treatment, minor surgery, physicals etc.
- Maintains patient medical records. Files and posts test results and other documentation for physician.
- Manages telephone calls and communications physician orders to patients and pharmacy.
- Applies and removes splints and dressings as directed
- Performs diagnostic testing such as EKG, Spirometry, audiometry, in-house lab testing such as mono spot, pregnancy tests, strep test, occupational medicine testing, and venipuncture.
- Performs specimen collection and processing and maintains quality control and CLIA regulations.
- Documents specimen test results in patient medical record file and processes test results appropriately
- Schedules patient appointments and tests
- Maintains patient confidentiality and follows OSHA guidelines
- Performs clerical functions as necessary such as answering telephones, medical record processing, operating computer, scheduling appointments, handling billing issues, and signing of Medicare lab forms.
- Performs venipuncture for pediatrics adolescents, juvenile adult and geriatric patients
- Administers medications by injection, suba, IM&ID.
Required Qualifications:
Education and Training:
- High School diploma or equivalent. Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- CPR.
- 2 years previous Medical Assistant experience in a busy medical practice strongly preferred.
- Must be able to draw blood and help triage patients.
- Excellent customer service skills, ability to multi-task, and work as a team essential.
