Position Overview:

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides advanced nursing care to patients in collaboration with physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The NP is responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of both acute and chronic medical conditions within the hospital setting. The NP will demonstrate clinical expertise, critical thinking, and leadership in delivering patient-centered care in accordance with Gateway Regional Medical Center policies, professional standards, and state regulations. The NP functions autonomously and in collaboration with the supervising physician to ensure safe, high-quality care. This role requires proficiency in obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing treatment plans, and prescribing medications and therapies as appropriate.

Education Qualifications:

  • Required: Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited program.

Certification Qualifications:

  • Required: Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Illinois.
  • Required: National certification as a Nurse Practitioner in applicable specialty area (e.g., FNP, AGACNP, PMHNP, etc.).
  • Required: Current Basic Life Support (AHA or American Red Cross BLS) certification
  • Required: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA or American Red Cross ACLS)
  • Required: DEA registration and controlled substance license in accordance with Illinois state law.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of advanced nursing practice, including diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and documentation standards.
  • Ability to assess patients across the lifespan (if applicable to department).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
