Experienced RN: Clinical Educator- 9 Peds (Hematology & Oncology/ Adolescents)

The Clinical Educator coordinate and conducts education for nursing staff, which will enhance quality and safe patient care. Responsible for ensuring nursing staff within the service line units are educated to assess and identify patient care needs for assigned patients. Education is provided based on unit/patient needs and includes but is not limited to service line academies, skill-based competency, equipment use expertise, and/or clinical assessment competency. Collaborates with Director of Clinical and Life Support Education, Manager of Clinical and Life Support Education, Directors of Nursing, and Nurse managers to provide learning sessions to enhance staff knowledge and competency in the management of cost effective/clinically effective complex patient and family centered care. Education / Experience: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required; BSN required, three years clinical experience in area of interest required. Reports To: Matrix Model: Service Line Nurse Manager and Manager of Clinical and Life Support Education, works collaboratively with Nursing Practice Development Specialist Licensure, Certification and / or Registration: Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in applicable state. BCLS required. National certification in specialty preferred, encouraged to obtain within one year of hire.

9 PHO is a 16-bed specialty unit that provides comprehensive, family-centered care to children and adolescents with hematologic, oncologic, and complex medical needs. The unit’s culture is rooted in teamwork, compassion, and excellence, where nurses, providers, and interdisciplinary partners collaborate to deliver the highest standard of care.

9 PA is a fast-paced, 16-bed acute care unit caring for children ages 12-21 with a wide range of medical conditions requiring short- to moderate-length hospital stays. The culture on 9PA emphasizes adaptability, collaboration, and continual learning to ensure safe, evidence-based, and family-centered care. The team takes pride in fostering a positive, resilient environment where nurses are empowered to grow in their practice. What makes 9PA unique is its strong sense of teamwork and communication.

 We’re Looking For:

• Required: BSN and three years' experience in Oncology and/or Peds

• Required: CPHON (Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse)

• Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing

• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of applicable state.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) & Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association

Essential Functions:

1. Teaches and demonstrates proficiency in patient physical assessment skills, patient care and nursing skills (i.e. mobility, respiratory care, nutrition, pain management, oral care, preventing infection, lift equipment, vital sign monitoring equipment).

2. Reinforces policies and procedures, protocols and guidelines with nursing staff.

3. Coordinates nursing centered rounds and bedside reporting in conjunction with the Nurse Manager/Case Manager with an ability to phase in multidisciplinary rounds.

4. Provides service line specific unit educational programs in collaboration with preceptors and Nursing Practice Development Specialist (NPDS) in class settings, informal on-site settings. Monitors compliance and attendance rosters.

5. Ensures the quality of professional services by demonstrating and maintaining competency through updating knowledge and skills and continuing professional growth.

6. Communicates in an effective, positive, and professional manner role modeling behaviors associated with Wake Forest Baptist Health Behavioral expectations.

7. Collaborates with nurse manager, assistant nurse manager, preceptors and NPDS to design, implement, and evaluate the nursing unit's orientation and annual needs assessment education plan.

8. Creates and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, self, co-workers, and facility including assisting in teaching interpretation of and developing strategies to address nurse sensitive indicators and performance improvement.

9. Supports provision of age/developmentally appropriate patient care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.
