JOB SUMMARY

As a Level 2 NICU and Nursery Nurse, you will be responsible for providing specialized care to newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as well as general care for infants in the nursery. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes for newborns, including premature infants and those with medical complications. Your role involves monitoring vital signs, administering medications, providing feeding support, and offering emotional support to families during a critical time.

All staff within the department will complete training during orientation for the postpartum unit. Staffing for the postpartum unit is comprised of Labor & Delivery, and NICU / Nursery staff. By doing this, it offers the unit versatility and flexibility in the staffing pool.

Minimum Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Licensed as Registered Nurse in the state of KY.

·        Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within the first year of employment.

·        Certification in STABLE within the first year of employment.

·        Previous experience in NICU or newborn setting preferred but not required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

NICU Care:

·        Monitor vital signs, including heart rate, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation.

·        Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.

·        Manage specialized equipment such as ventilators, incubators, and phototherapy lights.

·        Provide assistance with procedures such as intubation, suctioning, and catheterization.

Nursery Care:

·        Provide emotional support and guidance to new parents, addressing concerns and answering questions.

·        Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including pediatricians and lactation consultants, to coordinate care for newborns and their families.

·        Maintain accurate and detailed medical records of newborns' care and progress.

·        Communicate effectively with colleagues, physicians, and families regarding the status and needs of newborns.

Job Summary Provides professional nursing direct patient care in compliance with professional practice and unit standards. Promotes a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach towards patients, families and all members of the care delivery team. Essential Functions Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs. Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards. Directs and delegates care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence. Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development. Participates in the development of and maintains established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program. Performs other duties as assigned. Cross training into Postpartum and Pediatric unit required. Qualifications Education Required: Degree from an Accredited School of Nursing Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Preferred: Specialty certification Experience Required: Minimum one year of acute care neonatal experience required OR 6 months at a level 3 NICU or higher required. Demonstrated competence in area of expertise. Neonatal nursing experience in NICU preferred. Additional experience in an inpatient women's and children's service line preferred. Credentials Required: Registered Nurse Required: Upon Hire Basic Life Support Required: NRP within six months of hire or transfer date Skills Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs (Required) See community specific document for each Unit/Department required credentials (Required) Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment (Required) Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy and procedures (Required) Basic computer skills (Required) Working Conditions Lifting Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH). Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures. Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts). Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally. Ability to move around area with frequent sitting. Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently. Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently. Environmental Conditions Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles. Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment. Mental/Visual Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted). Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
