Responsibilities

Patient Care Coordination:

Serve as the primary liaison between burn patients, families, and the care team.

Facilitate smooth transitions between levels of care.

Identify and implement strategies to expand market presence, referral volume, and service sustainability.

Data & Quality Management

Collect, analyze, and maintain burn registry data in compliance with state and national reporting standards.

Monitor patient outcomes and participate in quality improvement projects for burn and trauma patients.

Prepare reports for internal review and accreditation purposes.

Education & Training

Provide burn-specific education to patients and families.

Organize training sessions, simulations, and continuing education for clinical teams.

Support community outreach and burn prevention programs.

Ensure ongoing education and competency development for ANMC staff, community providers, and EMS teams.

Administrative Duties

Coordinate multidisciplinary meetings and case reviews.

Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with hospital policies.

Assist in budget planning and resource allocation for burn services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Knowledge of Alaska Tribal Health System, ANTHC, and Alaska Native culture(s)

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

A bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college/university.

Minimum Experience Qualification

Non-supervisory – Five (5) years of professional nursing experience with burn/trauma patients in the emergency room, critical care areas, operating room, flight nursing, or as a trauma nurse coordinator, and substantial knowledge of the medical and nursing aspects of burn and trauma care. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

Current registered nurse license in the State of Alaska

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Certified Burn Registered Nurse (CBRN) within two years of hire

Advanced Burn Life Support certified within one year of hire

Trauma Nursing Core Course Instructor or within two years of hire

Preferred Education Qualification

Master’s degree in nursing, business, healthcare quality improvement, or analytics preferred.

Preferred Experience Qualification

Five (5) years of experience in a certified burn ICU/PICU.

Advanced Burn Life Support Instructor.

Preferred Certification Qualification

Advanced Trauma Life Support Course Coordinator

Certified Burn Registered Nurse

Additional Requirements

Assignments are usually of a long-term, recurring, or broadly defined nature with specific criteria from the American Burn Association (ABA) and American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma (ACS-COT) for burn and trauma facility verification and state designation.

Plans and directs own work, determines sequence of assignments, selects and develops methods, and collaborates with other burn and trauma nurse specialists as appropriate.

Safety precautions for employees, such as blood draws for screening for various diseases (e.g., hepatitis), required immunizations, etc., are necessary.
