Point of Care Testing Coordinator (MT or MLS) - PRN

$33.08 - $48.22 / hour

Position Summary

The Point of Care Testing Coordinator will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring institutional compliance with point of care testing regulations established by CLIA, JCAHO, and CAP accreditation agencies. The coordinator has primary responsibility for point of care testing performed outside the main lab.

As a Point of Care Testing Coordinator, you will:

  • Always present and promote professional demeanor. Communicate professionally and courteously with patients, family, and other medical personnel as necessary to recognize problems, initiate resolution, and, if necessary, escalate to the next level.  
     
  • Possess and maintain a broad knowledge of Laboratory Services, resulting in positive and consistent resolution of questions/problems/complications.  
     
  • Serve as a liaison between clinical staff, departmental faculty, and physicians. Respond and resolve clinician complaints, as well as takes action to prevent reoccurrence. 
     
  • Complete continuing education and in-service programs to maintain licensure and certification and meet regulatory and job requirements. Provide technical support and guidance for point of care laboratory services within the ECU Health System.  
     
  • Ensure timely and accurate testing and reporting of laboratory results. 
     
  • Support the development and implementation of standard operating procedures SOPs for point of care laboratory services as applicable to the testing area.  
     
  • Assist with new equipment and test request process LSC to drive standardization of test processes across the lab service line LSL. Monitor and maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory standards. 
     
  • Conduct regular quality control checks and audits and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality. 
     
  • Suggest, develop, and implement quality assurance projects and prepare reports as required. Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient care. 
     
  • Address and resolve any issues related to point of care laboratory services. 
     
  • Advocate for patient safety and quality care in all laboratory processes. Monitor the management and integrity of laboratory data within the point of care testing department. 
     
  • Utilize laboratory information systems, LIS for data tracking, and reporting. 
     
  • Ensure data security and confidentiality. Work closely with other coordinators, department manager, and laboratory medical director on the investigation and development of new or modified test procedures. 
     
  • Collect and analyze data, providing appropriate written information for protocol evaluation and test interpretation. 
     
  • Develop, review, and update written protocols as needed. Evaluate the competency of point of care testing personnel and ensures team members maintain their proficiency in performing test procedures and reporting test results promptly and accurately. 
     
  • Identify training needs and ensures everyone performing testing receives continuous in-service training and education relevant to the type and complexity of the services provided. 
     
  • Support learners by mentoring, teaching, and precepting as appropriate. Provide technical guidance on safety guidelines, providing protective barriers for employee safety, and monitoring staff compliance with their use. 
     
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the appropriate use of personal protective equipment and infection control barriers and devices. 
     
  • Ensure that events, safety catches, and near misses are reported in accordance with ECU Health event reporting policies and procedures.
     
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  
     
  • Perform other duties related to the work described herein. Act as a technical expert within area of specialization to resolve technical issues and ensure corrective actions are implemented when test systems deviate from established performance specifications. 
     
  • Provide technical guidance on processes such as the selection of test procedures, establishing the laboratory's test performance characteristics, and modifying existing procedures for implementation when necessary. 
     
  • Review quality control procedures, investigate problems, and explore alternative methods as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS Degree or higher in Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Biologic Science. 
     
  • Three years of current/related clinical laboratory in a hospital, clinic, or Commercial referral laboratory is required, with one year of supervisor or coordinator experience preferred. 
     
  • Licensure/Certification: MLS/MT (ASCP, AMT, HEW, or equivalent) certification is required. 

     

Pay Range

$33.08 - $48.22

  • Primarily Days (day shift hours varies)
  • Required to work other shifts, when needed
