Job Description
The Clinical Informaticist I, under minimal supervision, supports and facilitates the achievement of the UAB organization’s vision and strategy for delivery of high reliability Clinical Informatics (CI) services across the continuum of care through the effective performance of diverse advanced administrative, training, testing and knowledge management duties often of a confidential and/or complex nature.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare/Informatics/Business and a minimum of 3 years healthcare experience. May be met with an equivalent combination of education (High School or Associate’s degree) AND 7 years of healthcare experience. Must demonstrate: 1. Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office suite, Learning Management System, Database, and Knowledge Management tools. 2. Display excellent verbal and written skills including composition, proofreading, and editing of documents, for web/electronic content, presentations, reports, etc.
RN Preferred
Licenses / Certifications / Registrations Required:
If has an earned healthcare/clinical degree (i.e. RN, Radiology, etc.), will maintain current State of Alabama licensure commensurate with degree. Preferred: Certification in Training, Informatics, Quality, Knowledge Management, etc.

Job Description
The Clinical Informaticist I, under minimal supervision, supports and facilitates the achievement of the UAB organization’s vision and strategy for delivery of high reliability Clinical Informatics (CI) services across the continuum of care through the effective performance of diverse advanced administrative, training, testing and knowledge management duties often of a confidential and/or complex nature.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Serves as a Clinical Informatics coordination consultant in the life-cycle of CIS solutions.
- Utilizes critical analysis to design, problem solve, and mitigate risk in the deployment of CI quality, design and support services
- Coordinates the delivery of CI services in support of the CI quality, training, knowledge management, testing, and/or data analytics functions and identifies areas for improvement including:
- Value realization o CI service delivery
- CI communication and knowledge base development and curation
- Collaborates with the CI team in the development and execution of CI solution, learning, knowledge management, communication, testing and performance plans. d) Actively participates in the Clinical Informatics Professional Development Program
- Champions and Engages in Adoption efforts for CIS implementations and upgrades.
- Recognizes the impact of change and applies change management principles in support of CI performance efforts.
- Effectively participates in system-wide cross-functional teams in a matrix reporting structure, as well as, supports collaboration and champions evidence based CI best practices methods and solutions.
- Establishes credibility among stakeholders.
- Assists project teams in realizing expected improvements through her/his engagement on the execution of CI operations and tactical plans
- In collaboration with the CI team, contributes to the development of and adheres to CI quality controls and processes for capacity planning, work effort outcome metrics and reporting, communications, testing/validation, and learning.
- Enables knowledge management through the creation and curation of CI input/output artifacts, libraries, and databases for informatics, quality, and training functions.
- Controls and executes HealthStream (LMS) Administrator duties as part of Clinical Informatics learning activities.
- Controls and executes Database and Knowledge Management Administrator duties as part of Clinical Informatics content/communication management plans.
- Captures and distributes record-keeping for execution of CI training/validation/testing plans.
- Organizes, participates in delivery, and provides feedback on CI personnel departmental operations onboarding (document, content, and knowledge management plans, style guide, tools/equipment set-up, general SOPs, etc.).
- Contributes to the development, execution, and evaluation of testing, training, and end user support.
- Deliver end user training including, but not limited to, existing and new clinical applications, clinical system upgrades and other changes, new employee orientation, and just-in-time learning per role assignment.
- Partners with the CI team and other departments/teams to develop and distribute clinical information system or workflow related communications/collaterals.
- Assists with Clinical Informatics planning and service delivery for CI quality, analytics, and training/testing services
