Unit Description

A 39-bed unit, Critical Care Step Down is committed to providing high quality patient and family centered care for patient populations with various medical conditions including pulmonary, cardiac, neurological disorders, and post-operative care for the surgical patient who requires a higher level of nursing care. CCSU also cares for ventilated tracheostomy patients.

All unit staff attends both hospital and nursing orientation and receives unit-specific orientation. Unit and core competencies are completed during the orientation process. Our team consists of RNs and NAs, and teamwork is critical for building a cohesive nursing unit.

Scope of Work

The clinical nurse, under the ANA scope of practice utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles. The Clinical Nurse provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures.

Associates in Nursing Required

Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years

Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.

MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required

AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days

AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Required within 6 months

Specialty Certification highly recommended within 2 years

1 year of experience as an RN in the ICU Preferred

About the unit Our sub-acute floor is a 59 bed Medicare unit that has residents with multiple clinical issues including CHF, dehydration, cellulites, diabetes, DVT, and stable cardiac related issues needing monitoring. Nurses work closely with a variety of health care professionals including doctors, social work, dieticians, PT/OT, hospice, and spiritual support. Our sub-acute unit offers a well-rounded opportunity for learning, professional growth and personal satisfaction. Our Chronic Care floor is a 60 bed Medicare/Rehabilitation and long-term care unit and is a great place to learn basic med-surg, I.V. therapy & wound treatments nursing skills. Nurses on this unit along with host of healthcare professionals work to provide and implement the best treatment plan for residents. This fast paced and busy unit provide a great atmosphere for PT/OT residents to be motivated and reach their goals. Our Dementia Care floor is a 60 bed Medicare/Medicaid/Dementia unit. We provide care to residents with a variety of diagnoses. The dementia care is where we create a fullness of life through the joy of relationships, the art of caring and the spirit of living. This unit also works closely with a multidisciplinary team meets and discusses the resident’s plan of care. About the Facilities Corewell Health Commons – Farmington Hills Our facility has 3 floors and 9 unit (3 units per floor), we are able to provide care for long term care residents and post-acute rehab patients. The first floor has 59 beds with a focus on sub-acute rehab, the second floor has 59 beds which focuses on long-term care and sub-acute rehab and our third floor is a secured dementia unit. Nurse-patient ratios vary depending on the shift and the population you will be serving. We care for dementia residents, long term care and sub-acute rehab residents. With 179 beds, we accept but not limited to patient specialties, such as general rehab, neuro rehab, cardiac, respiratory and cancer. We also have various programs for residents to participate in multiple activities. About the unit This 48-bed unit is dedicated to ortho/neuro/trauma. Some specific diagnoses’ are total knee, total hip, spinal fusions, and fractured hips.
