Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Nurse Manager for the Inpatient, Crisis and Acute Psychiatric Services within Rutgers Behavioral Health Care.
The Nurse Manager provides nursing services and participates in the delivery of individualized, goal directed nursing care through the use of the nursing process in accordance with the departmental and hospital policies and procedures and all regulatory requirements. The Nurse Manager functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team; participates in quality improvement activities, educational activities and supports research endeavors. The role is consistent with the scope and standards outlined by the American Psychiatric Nurses Association for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Oversees and has accountability for staffing, scheduling and budgeting within 24-hour per day/7 day-day per week environments, inclusive of 79 inpatient beds (including 15 involuntary beds). Responsible for managing 24/7 programming for nursing services within Inpatient Services, Crisis Services, Acute Psychiatric Services, and the Children’s Transitional Residence.
- Creates and maintains a high performance environment characterized by positive leadership and a strong team orientation.
- Assesses and evaluates staffing patterns for proper utilization of personnel in relation to patient needs in assigned units, and prepares appropriate work schedules.
- Supervises nursing staff in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating delivery of patient care and assists multidisciplinary treatment teams in communicating and coordinating patient care.
- Manages human resource and employee relation functions.
- Develops and implements unit nursing policies/procedures.
- Participates in development of departmental policies/procedures.
- Participates in development of operating and personnel services budgets.
