Department Specific Functions Perform s a variety of routine duties . This individual’s role closely and effectively interacts with the physicians in the Movement Disorders division. Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment. Works in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up. Writes prescriptions for medication, blood products based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols. Initiates and facilitates clinical research protocols and coordinates patient care with research staff. Obtains complete medical history independent of supervision by the physician. Orders appropriate laboratory tests according to practice guidelines. Develops, implements and evaluates a plan of care that is appropriate for the patient and family. Actively participates in quality assurance programs and peer review activities. Responsible for providing assistance to physicians in the care and treatment of patients. Provides medical support to staff, triaging and implementing care in a knowledgeable and skillful manner, as evidenced by team feedback and documentation in medical records. Administers nursing assessments to include performing examinations, giving injections and assessing a patient's health status. Makes pertinent observation, using language that correctly describes body parts and functions, and draws logical conclusions which direct formation of nursing care plan. Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and shows a fundamental understanding of its implications by reporting information to the physician and others caring for the patient, and by incorporating information in the nursing care plan. Uses care plans as a basis for providing safe and therapeutic care to patients. Consistently follows established standards, policies, and procedures in providing nursing care. Accepts accountability for clinical care of assigned patients, including supervision of nonprofessional personnel. Administers medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly. Supports and enforces infection-control and patient safety policies and procedures. Cooperates and maintains good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, and visitors. Assess severity of patient's condition, determining and directing patients to appropriate medical providers. Verif ies patient insurance coverage of medications, complete s the Prior Authorization process with insurance companies. Educate s all patients and families about treatments and symptom management. Coordinates care with interdisciplinary healthcare team in the development and implementation of plan of care. Facilitates communication between the nursing staff and physicians with leadership skills and on-unit mentoring. Collaborates with members of the education department and units’ leadership team in planning educational opportunities and competency evaluation for nursing staff members. Conducts or participates in multidisciplinary rounds and ensures appropriate and quality care for patients. Rotates and refers to support services as needed. II.
