Primary Functions JOB DESCRIPTION At the direction and under the supervision of a recognized licensed authority, the licensed practical nurse (LPN) contributes to the nursing process by performing tasks within the framework of case finding, health teaching, supportive and restorative care. Job Description The PICU is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team in Wilmington, DE. This is a 36hrs/wk, rotating shift position. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Nemours Children's Health, Delaware is a 24-bed unit in a Level 1 Trauma Center. Patients requiring care and surveillance in the PICU will have conditions and diagnoses which may include, but are not limited to, those producing: acute and reversible loss of consciousness, respiratory failure, compromised air exchange, cardiovascular dysfunction, hepatic failure, hemodynamic instability, renal dysfunction, central nervous system injury or dysfunction, acute trauma and organ failure requiring transplantation. Treatments or interventions performed in the PICU include measures utilizing advanced life support technology. These include, but are not limited to cardiopulmonary resuscitation, tracheal intubation, ECMO, pharmacologic support of circulation, mechanical ventilation, point of care monitoring, CRRT, thoracentesis, and hemodynamic, intracranial pressure, intravascular monitoring. Each patient room has electrocardiographic, pulse oximetry, respiratory, hemodynamic and intracranial pressure monitoring capability, as well as central EKG and respiratory monitoring. Portable monitoring during patient transport is provided. Special equipment includes radiant warmer beds, heating/cooling blanket systems, Mapleson manual ventilation system, end tidal CO2 monitors, ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring systems, intracranial pressure monitoring system, ventriculostomy systems, infusion pumps, blood warmer, continuous renal replacement systems, and peripheral nerve stimulators. Requirements Be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Experienced pediatric intensive care nurse of at least 2 years preferred. Current Delaware or Multistate Compact License Must be CPR certified by the American Heart Association. PALS and ACLS preferred. Job Description Nemours is seeking a full-time (60hrs every 2 wks) Nursing Assistant for our 4 East Unit, with every third weekend, holiday rotation package and flex holiday (as needed) in Wilmington, DE. This position is responsible for assisting with general activities of the patient care unit and assist the health care team with performance of patient care activities, under the direction and guidance of a Registered Nurse. 4 East is a 24-bed general, specialty and subspecialty medical unit with a high population of patients requiring respiratory or gastrointestinal management. Each single patient room is equipped with oxygen, compressed air and suction, along with state-of-the-art cardio respiratory bedside monitors and computers that enable the healthcare team to access a patient’s electronic medical record. These computers are also used in the barcoding administration of medications which ensures patient safety by verifying that the correct medication is given to the appropriate child. This unit’s goals are to provide high-quality, cost-effective, family-centered care. Family-centered care rounds are performed daily to assure an inter-professional approach and partnership with the patient and family. Essential Functions Ensures an adequate stock of all necessary equipment and supplies in designated areas at established par levels. Ensures a clean and safe patient care unit. Assists patients with activities of daily life (bath, feed, play, etc.) and provides other patient care as directed. Assures all supplies are accurately charged. Contacts pharmacy, dietary, and other departments as designated by the Registered Nurse. Collects patient specimens (blood, urine, stool, other per policy), paying close attention to patient safety, comfort and accuracy of information. Uses Hospital Information Systems as required for patient care, (e.g. documenting vital signs and patient care activities.) Accurately relays information from physicians, nurses, laboratory personnel and others. Transports patients and delivers reports, supplies, etc., to other patient units or Institute locations as needed. Courteously and professionally covers patient care unit front desk as needed. This includes promptly answering telephones, greeting patients, sending reports, distributing, sorting, or processing mail, managing medical record, etc. Provides 1:1 sitter coverage for medically complex and behavioral health patients, as assigned Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation. Participates in unit, departmental and hospital education programs. Attends unit/departmental meetings regularly. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of patients of all ages; neonates, infants, toddlers, school aged, adolescents and adults. Requirements Minimum 1 year patient care experience preferred. Able to read and write accurately. Able to understand laboratory orders, computer information, and some medical terminology. Able to obtain specimens, including blood specimens, from a patient population that is primarily pediatric and often ill, handicapped, or restricted in some way.
