Responsibilities The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant has advanced health assessment and decision-making skills, prepared through a formal educational program that meets criteria established by the profession. Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant are certified by examination of an approved certifying body. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant provides clinical services in a hospital setting, either on an admitting or consultative service greater than 50% of the time. Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant provide primary and specialty health care to new and established patients, assess and manage common acute and chronic illnesses, consult and make referrals, and collaborate with physicians and other members of the health care team. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient's age-specific needs is required. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be involved in patient and family education of disease management and treatments and may also be involved in research or educational activities within their department.
