Job Summary: The Staff Nurse is responsible for implementing the philosophies, objectives, standards of care, and policies and procedures of the Nursing Division under the direction of the Nurse Manager. The Staff Nurse is responsible for providing direct patient care and functioning as a charge nurse according to the Nurse Manager's expectation for an assigned shift. Surgical Care Unit (SCU) is a 26 bed medical/surgical unit that is staffed with a combination of LPNs, RNs and PCTs who provided safe and compassionate care for a variety of surgical patients. These patients consist of urology patients such as cystoscopies, prostatectomies, percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL), nephrectomies, etc. General surgical patients consisting of hernia repair; incision and drainage or debridement of abscesses or infections in various locations; colon resections, ostomy placements and drain placements; laparoscopic procedures like cholecystectomies and appendectomies. Vascular patients, which deal mostly with amputations of limbs and revascularization of limbs such as bypasses. Wound vacuums and a ton of wound care. SCU is a fast pace unit that will assist with building great critical thinking skills.
