Job Requirements I. General Summary This role is considered the minimum role for all nurses at BWMC who have greater than (>) 12 months experience. This nurse will be competent in the skills/knowledge required and fully participate in unit governance. Independently provides and coordinates care provided to patients within a clinical specialty. Serves as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team. Demonstrates and models the full range of nursing professional practice in both care provided and in participation in development of strategies to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction with service and cost effectiveness at the unit level. Strives to provide an environment where patients, families, and colleagues collaborate in the delivery of care. Is accountable to peers for the advancement of group practice on the unit, and to the nurse manager for the totality of work performance. Is accountable to hold the Service Standards of the Nursing Mission, Vision and Values. II. Minimum Education Requirements An Associate Degree in Nursing is required; Bachelor of Science from a College of Nursing is preferred. Current Maryland RN licensure is required prior to beginning orientation. At least 1 year of RN experience is required. Professional Certification is highly encouraged. Employees hired on or after July 1, 2018 will be required to complete a Bachelor of Science from a College of Nursing within 5 years from the date of hire or transfer into a Clinical Nursing position. If there is gap in applied nursing experience of 5 years or more successful completion of a refresher course within past 6 months is required. III. Qualifications American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required upon hire Must meet all unit specific certification requirements: (PALS, ACLS, NRP) Maintains all Clinical Nurse I core expectations Competent evaluation with successful passing of probation; current on all mandatory classes/training. Patient Safety Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives. Implements policies, procedure, and standards consistently in the performance of assigned duties. Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with other team members. Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge. VI. Working Conditions Weekend, shift work, holiday, on-call, and overtime may be required. Work requires maximum lifting weight of 35 lbs. when participating in patient care tasks up to 50% of the time to position and/or assist patients on to carts or into wheelchairs or beds, and generally with ambulation. Work requires standing, sitting, bending, and/or walking for up to 100% of scheduled work time; maximum lifting weight of 50 lbs. when lifting equipment and supplies. Includes reaching for: grasping and handling equipment/ supplies. Requires hearing/listening to differentiate sounds. Visual acuity is necessary to read labels, charts, documents and use various instruments. There is potential for regular exposure to patients possessing infectious diseases requiring observance of universal precautions requiring wearing protective clothing, gloves, and mask as appropriate, and observance of safe work practices. Potential to be floated to like units with like skill sets based on acuity and census Works inside a clean, well-lighted environment. . May be exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple crisis situations. May be physically or verbally abused by patients. Expected to work on rotating shifts including weekends and holidays as necessary. May be expected to work on other than regular unit to provide adequate staffing, if the need arises. Participates in temporary assignment measures of department of Nursing. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, requiring the observance of Standard (Universal) Precautions and safe handling practices. This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respirator mask fitting.

The Adult Co-Occurring Disorders Unit is a 22 bed unit offering rapid evaluation with medical and psychiatric intervention. A track for adults with concurrent chemical dependency provides brief crisis intervention with a physician until the patient can be transferred to a lower level of care. As a Unit Manager you will: Provide 24-hour operational management of assigned unit. Manage expense budget(s) of assigned clinical programs. Maintain clinical environment and staffing strategy that enable program to maintain or exceed budgeted census; is proactive and responsive to changes in patient acuity and census and makes appropriate adjustments to ensure the maintenance of a safe and therapeutic environment of care. Be responsible for the provision of clinical services that are based on an understanding of the cognitive and developmental needs of mentally ill adults, are responsive to changing program needs, and that meet internal and external requirements. Supervise nursing, and support staff. Utilize clinical expertise in the delivery of direct patient care, consultative activities, staff development, and treatment planning. Delivery of Clinical Services Ensures the delivery of quality nursing services, that are based on an understanding of the special needs of the patient population served. Documentation/Compliance Evaluates and monitors nursing, documentation and initiates corrective action to ensure compliance with internal and external standards. Requirements: Work requires written and oral communication skills and comprehensive knowledge of standards of nursing practice - acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing program and at least 2 years of progressively more responsible inpatient psychiatric nursing experience. Individuals without a bachelor's degree may be considered if they have completed a diploma nursing program and have at least 4 years of progressively more responsible inpatient psychiatric nursing experience. Must possess current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland at the time of appointment and continuously throughout tenure in position. Work requires clinical and managerial skills, knowledge of psychiatric nursing, and ability to meet the core competencies (as defined on the competency assessment form) required for working with the specific patient population - acquired through three to five years' of progressively more responsible inpatient psychiatric nursing experience. In addition, work requires three to six months' orientation to acquire sufficient familiarity with the clinical program, Clinical Services Division policies and procedures, Sheppard Pratt policies, and the requirements of regulatory agencies. Work requires interpersonal skills sufficient to provide effective leadership for assigned personnel and to interact effectively with adult psychiatrically ill patients, their family members, visitors, and a variety of Sheppard Pratt department staff (51 to 80% of work time). Work requires analytical and problem-solving abilities necessary to effectively manage unit/program resources, collaborate in clinical program planning, identify appropriate measures of acuity for assigned patient population, and evaluate the quality of nursing care. In keeping with the Maryland Board of Nursing guidelines, all nurses must have an active Maryland nursing license to practice in the state of Maryland, or must have an active license in a compact state that allows them to practice in Maryland, if they reside in that compact state. A multistate licensee who changes primary state of residence to another party state shall apply for a multistate license in the new party state within 60 days. The rule requires that a nurse apply for a new license in a new primary state of residence within 60 days of relocating, it does not require the new license be issued withing 60 days. The pay range for this position is $46.53 minimum to $76.66 maximum. Responsibilities include but are not limited to overall well-being of our residents, assisting in training and monitoring of medication care administration, communication with resident support services and families and maintaining clinical quality assurance while leading and demonstrating the Mission for Sunrise Senior Living, “to champion the quality of life for all seniors” in accordance with federal, state/provincial, and local standards and Sunrise Senior Living policies to promote the highest degree of quality care and services to our residents. The unique responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to the essential functions listed as follows: Coordination of Health Needs: Identify on-going needs and services of residents in promotion of the highest quality resident services to be delivered. Ensure proper follow through, assessment, and documentation for residents with a change in health care services and status. Assist Resident Care Director (RCD) in conducting resident assessments at time of move in, 30 days post move in, semi-annually and with any change in status. Conduct monthly wellness visits for all residents. Assess, monitor, and follow up with residents who have experienced any fall, accident, or incident and document and report as required and directed. Document all pertinent information in the resident wellness file. Maintain communications with resident’s family and or responsible party to ensure medical needs for the resident are being met. Contact resident’s attending physician when necessary and/or upon family request. Ensure weights and vital signs are obtained monthly for each resident. Assist in maintaining wellness files according to Sunrise policies and federal and state/provincial regulations. Maintain medical supplies and emergency kits for the community. Provide clinical support and assistance to community team members as needed. Understand and follow infection control practices. Partner with the RCD and community team to promote infection control standards including any resident testing, training, and skills checks. Understand and practice the proper method of attending to and disposing of and the possibility of exposure to blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids, infectious waste, sharp sticks, and hazardous materials in compliance with universal care precautions. Medication Programs Monitor each resident’s medication and treatment profile regularly to ensure each medication and treatment is administered as ordered and documented accurately. Transcribe physician orders Medication Administration Record Treatment Administration Record (MAR/TAR) to include initials, date and time ‘noted’ and, date faxed to pharmacy accurately and promptly. Complete MAR/TAR audit each month. Demonstrate and is knowledgeable of the Six (6) Rights of Medication Pass (“Right” resident, medication, dosage, time, route, right to refuse). Act as liaison for pharmacy services to ensure effective services for residents. Monitor the Medication Room, medication carts, and treatment carts for neatness, cleanliness, availability of medications, and expired medications. Complete Medication Observations and skills checks for medication care managers at the direction of the RCD. Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance Demonstrate and is knowledgeable in the following key quality improvement areas: Resident Centered Care Model APIE Quality Care Indicators and Outcomes Actively participates in Sunrise Quality Assurance Meetings and Clinical Meetings Demonstrate and is knowledgeable in the following key regulations: All Federal, State/Provincial, and Local resident care and services regulations Resident Rights Resident Assessment/Evaluation process in accordance with state/provincial regulatory requirements. Review Physician Reports of all new residents as directed by RCD. Order medications and equipment as directed by RCD. Demonstrate and is knowledgeable of Sunrise practices and guidelines in accordance with resident care programs to include skin, nutrition, behavior, falls, and bowel/bladder. Assist in implementation, training, and monitoring of documentation related to resident’s clinical health and wellness. Ensure resident changes, concerns, and/or solutions are reported to RCD as appropriate. Contribute to the overall engagement programs and processes (customer and team member engagement) including participating in the team member engagement survey and engagement improvement planning workshops. Attend regular meetings; Town Hall, Department Team, Cross Over, and others as directed by the Supervisor/Department Coordinator. Maintain compliance in assigned required training and all training required by state/province or other regulating authorities as applicable to this role to ensure that Sunrise standards are always met. May be exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple crisis situations. May be physically or verbally abused by patients. May be expected to work on Work Experience Minimum Education Requirements An Associate Degree in Nursing is required; Bachelor of Science from a College of Nursing is preferred. Current Maryland RN licensure is required prior to beginning orientation. At least 1 year of RN experience is required. Professional Certification is highly encouraged. Employees hired on or after July 1, 2018 will be required to complete a Bachelor of Science from a College of Nursing within 5 years from the date of hire or transfer into a Clinical Nursing position. If there is gap in applied nursing experience of 5 years or more successful completion of a refresher course within past 6 months is required.
