QUALIFICATIONS Required: Willing to work varied hours with flexible schedules & every other weekend; Supplemental RN’s must be available 50% day shift and 50% night shift; Excellent communication skills both orally and written. Preferred: AHA PALS certification; Basic knowledge of psychosocial concepts and problem-solving skills. EFM Advanced for Charge Nurses. Lic/Reg/Cert: Current Oregon RN license. TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS Must maintain knowledge of and practice safe body mechanics. Must be physically able to stoop, bend, reach and frequently lift 50 pounds or more. Continuous walking and/or standing throughout shift required. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Maintains overall responsibility for patient care/ non RN employee’s job performance on assigned unit & delegates patient care tasks to team members within respective practice parameters. Evaluates/corrects/directs/redirects care & assignment of staff as patient needs, outcome, & staffing activity dictate. Identify & communicate unit staffing needs as per Nursing Department staffing matrix, patient acuity & professional judgment & reports valid inadequate staffing to management. Gathers data & accurately documents information & observations that contribute to the patient’s plan of care. Set patient outcomes & evaluate progress. Assures, as a responsible member of the total healthcare team, that nursing care is accomplished effectively & that the medical regime for each patient is carried out as prescribed by the physician in collaboration with other disciplines. Participates with health care team members in facilitating patients & families learning throughout the hospital experience in preparation for discharge. Reinforces patients continued health care through teaching and/or referral to case management/resource management for community agency follow-up. Maintains a constant awareness of the legal aspects of nursing & demonstrates this in his/her decisions & documentation regarding patient care within the Registered Nurses scope of practice. Demonstrates an awareness of cost containment & economical use of supplies and equipment. Properly charges items as appropriate. Demonstrates time management effectively. Attends 75% of staff meetings & other meetings & in-services as requested. Is accountable for information given. Supervises, reviews, & assists other team members in providing appropriate, timely care. Listens to & resolves immediate problems/grievances of supervised non-RN employees. Recommend higher levels of discipline when appropriate. Participates in peer evaluations & evaluates those supervised & recommends appropriate personnel action of work improvement plans. Reports to Nursing Management any work performance problems, policy violations, or misconduct by coworkers on unit. Provides ongoing education to hospital staff regarding patient care in the form of in-services & individual orientation to the philosophy of health care & health care procedures. Participates in orientation of new personnel. Participates in activities which promote professional growth & self development & is evidenced in daily practice. Maintains quality & efficiency standards as set by the immediate supervisor & makes recommendations for improvements. Performs and maintains skills and competency on an annual basis in Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby, Special Care Nursery, and Pediatrics as evidenced by completion of initial orientation, annual, and new procedure checklists. Position Summary Provides patient and family focused care within scope of the OR Nurse Intern license, as part of the health care team. Qualifications Required: Completed one full year in an accredited Nursing Program. Current Oregon Nurse Intern license. Current certified nursing assistant certification. BLS certification required.
