The Certified Nurse-Midwife serves as a member within the General Division in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The CNM is responsible for full-scope midwifery care. The CNM provides independent clinical management of essentially healthy people, including: routine office well gynecologic care, management of minor gynecologic issues, antepartum/intrapartum/postpartum care, and immediate care of the newborn. The CNM will work in the hospital, office-based, and health center care settings as a member of a collaborative care team. The care team consists of OB/GYNs, CNMs, NPs, RNs, social workers, medical assistants, nutritionists.

Job Description

  • Provides well person gynecologic care, treatment of minor gynecologic conditions, family planning care, STI diagnosis/treatment, and antepartum/postpartum care in the office-based setting. These offices include: 833 Chestnut Street and Wolf Street
  • Provides antepartum/postpartum care in Philadelphia Department of Public Health Centers.
  • Provides intrapartum/immediate postpartum care to clients Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. The CNM would independently care for people with essentially normal labor and spontaneous vaginal deliveries, precept and teach residents and medical/midwifery/PA students, participate in postpartum rounds, and provide telephone triage coverage.
  • Typical work schedule would include two 8-hour office/health center days and one to two 12- hour hospital shifts in a seven-day period. Weekend coverage is rotated.
  • Care is provided in a collaborative, team-based approach. The need for consultation, collaboration, and/or referral is based on jointly developed practice guidelines to optimize the physical, social, and emotional needs of our clientele.
  • Will participate in various Department, University, and Hospital committees; attend meetings within the Division, and other divisions at the discretion of the Division Director
  • Provide didactic lectures and simulation-based training for residents and medical/midwifery/nursing students

Education/Certifications

Master in Nursing degree, completion of an ACME accredited graduate program, passing score on the AMCB certification exam.

Certification by the AMCB, Pennsylvania RN license, Pennsylvania CNM license. Must meet requirements for Pennsylvania Nurse-Midwife Prescriptive Authority license and US DEA registration.

Experience Requirements:

Minimum of 2 years of experience is required.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong observational skills and attention to detail.

Doula - Riley - Inpatient OB

Overview Guides pregnant person/family through the birthing process to provide emotional, physical and informational support. Works with the family at the hospital during the labor & birth process and postpartum. Administers care to designated patients and provides support to the care team under the direction of the clinical nurse.
