Participates in the care of women with medical complications in collaboration with obstetricians/gynecologists. Responsibilities: Perform accurate history and physical examinations on essentially healthy women, order and interpret diagnostic tests, diagnose problems, and manage minor problems and illnesses. Provide primary care in an ambulatory setting to women: preconception care, prenatal care, labor and delivery management, postpartum care, normal newborn care, well-woman gynecology, family planning, counseling in health promotion, maintenance and disease prevention. Participate in research and continuing education activities. Instruct and supervise nursing and medical personnel. Follow the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient. Identify deviations from normal and consults, co-manages or refers as appropriate. Provide individualized educational opportunities for students including mentoring, supervision and evaluation. Provide individualized client teaching and counseling utilizing the nurse midwifery philosophy. Completion of an accredited school of nurse midwifery required. Bachelor's degree required. Considerable degree of independent judgment to monitor and respond to changes in a client's condition. Interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, families and all members of the healthcare team. Oral and written skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients, physicians and members of the healthcare community. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Midwife Registered Nurse (RN) Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
