Summary of Job Duties:

The Advanced Practice Nurse/Physician Assistant rotates with attending physicians in the OR clinic and rotates through all the orthopedic subspecialties. They will assist the surgeon with clinic, organize visits, and perform clinic procedures; assist in the operating room; answer pages; and round on post-operative patients on a daily and PRN basis. The APRN/PA will be responsible for managing postoperative outpatient care, answering telephone inquiries, and filling prescriptions. APRN/PA must have a high level of expertise to perform assessments/diagnosis/treatment of actual/potential problems of patients.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

APRN:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with a Master's in Nursing

  • Valid Licenses as a Registered Nurse and APRN by the State of Arkansas

PA:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program

  • Valid license as a PA by the State of Arkansas​

PLUS:

  • Must be able to operate all typical nursing equipment essential to performing the job (i.e., scales, procedure equipment, needles, blood pressure equipment, and EKG machines).

  • Must have normal communication and sensory requirements.

  • Ability to comply with CDC Universal Precautions when indicated.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a surgical setting

  • Prescriptive authority and a DEA license must be obtained after hire.

Responsibilities:

  • Extend the patient care and administrative services of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences physicians.

  • Work autonomously, as well as, in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage patients' health care problems; and will serve as a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate.

  • Coordinate the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, assuring that care is timely and appropriate.
