Description Job Title- Nurse Practitioner-Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit/PICU-Mount Sinai Hospital- Full Time - Split Shift A nurse practitioner (NP) as described in Title VIII, Article 139 section 6910 of the New York Education Law is a RN who has earned a separate certification as an NP through advanced clinical nursing education in a distinct specialty area of practice. Nurse practitioners are independent practitioners who diagnose, treat, and prescribe for a patients condition that falls within their specialty area of practice. NOTE: Medical orders, progress notes and treatments plans are not required to be countersigned by a physician. PRINCIPLES DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL PRACTICE Assesses the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination. Initiates and orders selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations and laboratory examination, prescribes medication regimens, interprets findings and alters plan of care according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines Educates and counsels in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses. Develops the plan of care based on the diagnoses and individual patient needs: Records, reports, and interprets the clients responses to the plan of care. Performs a patient record review with the collaborating physician in a timely fashion but not less than every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement. Completes the Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or the Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff for continued credentialing status. Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and the bylaws of the Hospital Staff. Description The Clinical Program Manager is responsible for assuring compliance with mandated clinical orientation, competency assessment and interventions in the assigned clinical program of designated nursing staff within the Medical Center. This individual interfaces directly with MSMC Departments, Administrators, Nursing, Medical and Quality Leadership, and Clinical Staff, managing the educational and operational impact of all clinical care delivery, staff performance, and outcome measures to support clinical practice. Responsibilities 1. Oversees clinical operations within the program, using data and fact-based problem solving techniques to improve processes and outcomes. Ensures that all clinical initiatives run according to institutional and departmental policies and in accordance with any government or regulatory requirements as applicable. 2. Recruits, orients, trains, coaches, counsels, mentors, disciplines, and evaluates staff in accordance with all internal policies and procedures. Communicates values, strategies, and objectives of department or division on a regular basis. Assigns accountabilities, delegates tasks and responsibilities, and plans, monitors and appraises job performance. 3. Develops, maintains and reconciles departmental budget with financial responsibility and oversight for department or division. 4. About the Role: We are seeking Advanced Care Providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) to join our expanding Internal Medicine teams and collaborate closely with our Chief Medical Officers. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a commitment to providing high-quality patient care and bring an innovative, forward-thinking approach to their work. Candidates should possess strong internal medicine knowledge and have experience in urgent care, primary care, or family medicine, with a comfort level in treating the adult population. Essential Job Duties: Patient Assessment and Diagnosis: Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants (NPs/PAs) partner with CMOs to perform comprehensive health assessments, including medical history, physical examinations, and diagnostic tests, to identify patients' health status and needs. Diagnose acute and chronic health conditions, formulate differential diagnoses, and develop appropriate treatment plans. Treatment and Management: NPs/PAs collaborate with CMO to provide primary and specialty care services, including prescribing medications, ordering, and interpreting diagnostic tests, and implementing therapeutic interventions. Manage chronic conditions, monitor patients' progress, and adjust treatment plans as necessary to optimize health outcomes. Health Promotion and Disease Prevention: NPs/PAs educate patients and families about health promotion strategies, disease prevention measures, and lifestyle modifications to improve overall health and well-being. They emphasize preventive care, such as immunizations, screenings, and health maintenance activities. Collaborative Care: NPs/PAs collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to coordinate patient care effectively. They consult with specialists, refer patients to appropriate healthcare providers, and facilitate continuity of care across healthcare settings. Clinical Care: NPs/PAs will be required to perform clinical skills that include but are not limited to; phlebotomy, IV insertion, and EKG. May need to see patients independently for urgent visits on weekends. Documentation and Recordkeeping: NPs/PAs maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including patient histories, assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress notes. They will assist in completing any forms for patient care such as Radiology questionnaires. They ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as organizational policies and procedures. Ethical and Legal Compliance: NPs/PAs adhere to ethical principles and professional standards of practice, maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and respect for patients' rights and dignity. They comply with legal and regulatory requirements governing nursing practice, licensure, and scope of practice. Overview The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for utilizing the nursing process in the provision of safe quality care of patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic gastroenterological and pulmonary procedures to include patient teaching, physical and psychological preparation. An Endoscopy Registered Nurse’s duties range from pre -and intraprocedural interventions to immediate postprocedural assessment, care of equipment, specimen handling, and documentation. Responsibilities Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, cognitive and cultural diversity of the patient. Responsible for supervising and directing patient care in the endoscopy suite while ensuring proper techniques are used. Ensures patient identification by checking patient identifiers. Verifies procedure, consent, NPO status, and any allergies. Communicates data collected with other health care team members participating in the patient’s care to ensure a completed Pre-Procedure Verification Checklist. Collaborates as appropriate with proceduralist and other members of the multidisciplinary team in planning interventions to meet patient and family needs. Assists the proceduralist and health care team in safe patient positioning for the procedure. Intervenes with proper technique, procedure and safety precautions to meet individual needs of patients and families. Evaluates and documents patient response to and outcome of care provided and revises plan of care accordingly. Ensures all supplies and equipment required are sterile or high level disinfected and available for use. Observes and communicates to team any changes in the patient’s condition. Directs other staff when necessary and reports any unusual occurrences to proceduralist. Ensures all medications on field are administered and charted. Ensures care and handling of specimens, confirming labeling and quantity with proceduralist in debriefing and secured as per policy. Performs other duties as required. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Experience: Minimum three (3) years experience in an Endoscopy Unit, Operating Room, or Critical Care setting. Licenses, Certifications: Current NY State RN License required. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required. Knowledge and Skills : Proficiency with Office PC's, Desktops, and Laptop software in addition to familiarity with Microsoft Office softwares to include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. Good interpersonal skills a must. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Good written and verbal communication skills. Physical Requirements : Position may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, talking, sitting, hearing, and bending throughout the work day. May include some repetitive motions.
