SUMMARY Perform essentially the same duties as those required of any military or government civil service nurse of similar experience and in similar duty assignments. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Collect, interpret, record, and communicate pertinent patient data relevant to the patient’s care before, during, and after surgery. Effectively ensure patient procedures, treatments and medications are administered in accordance with (IAW) physician orders, sound nursing judgment and applicable guidelines. Shall possess a current, active, full and unrestricted Registered Nurses (RN) licensed in Colorado or be able to practice using a nurse compact state or Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) license. Shall hold a national or state nursing license that is valid and current with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions. License must be unencumbered and remain in effect during contract employment. Shall have a current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate by the American Red Cross, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). The test is to determine ability to calculate medication dosage, and to verify familiarization with medications common to the MTF. A grade of 80 is passing. Must be familiar with various types of medical surgical equipment and current standards of care. Must obtain and maintain the site's required health screening and immunization requirements. Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks. Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple requests by patients, families, and team members. Skill in evaluating health problems, and making recommendations based on observations. Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications. MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION An Associates Degree in Nursing. Equivalent knowledge, experience, education, or training may be substituted for education. Must have participated in 30 hours every 2 years continuing education in nursing in general, 16 of which are in the specific area of practice. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION Specific experience may be required for each work area. MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION Current registered nurse license in the State of Alaska. Current Basic Life Support card required. All other certifications as required for specific work area : New Employees must obtain the required certifications within six months of hire; New graduates must obtain the required certifications within 18 months of hire; Contract and MOA employees must come to us with the required training completed as outlined in their individual contracts/MOAs, and must be licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Alaska and remain active with all annual licensing requirements. PREFERRED EDUCATION QUALIFICATION Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred. PREFERRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION National certification is preferred. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Depending on the needs of the organization , some incumbents in this job class may be required to obtain additional certifications or training in one or more specialty areas.
