Overview 3 West Surgical Observation is a post-surgical observation unit that is designed for quick turnover of patients to help keep the flow of the OR and PACU running smoothly and efficiently. The patient population consists of post-procedural patients who require a short same day observation stay. These observation admissions are typically 1-6 hours in length. During times of high hospital census, post-procedural patients requiring an overnight admission will be admitted to 3 West until an inpatient room is available. Registered nurses provide illness management and health promotion for patients and families who require care. Registered staff nurses utilize the nursing process and knowledge of scientific principles to provide safe, high quality, comprehensive, and age appropriate nursing care for their assigned patients. Registered staff nurses provide patient and family education and advocate for their needs. Registered nurses coordinate patient care with nonprofessional personnel as necessary.
