What you'll do

The OR Tech I, under general supervision by the OR Manager/Surgery Center Manager is a member of the OR Team, working with surgeons, registered nurses, anesthesiologists, certified nurse anesthetists and ancillary support personnel whose primary function is scrubbing for surgical cases. Other functions include handling instruments, supplies, medication, media, specimens, and instrument cases. When fully trained the OR Tech I assumes responsibility for call.

  • Demonstrates the assimilation of the principles of asepsis; and patient and staff safety in performance of duties. Responsible for managing the surgical field efficiently to assure minimal waste of supplies and equipment. Maintains supplies and equipment in assigned specialties.
  • Demonstrates skills in scrubbing for all surgical specialties as measured by direct supervisory observation or if in training, satisfactory progress.
  • Uses experience and knowledge to assist in solving immediate patient care problems within the scope of ORT practice as measured by direct supervisory observation and co-worker feedback.
  • Is capable of appropriately selecting the equipment and supplies required for the given case as demonstrated through direct feedback in “Missing Equip. & Supplies Tracking Form” and surgeon feedback.
  • Is skilled to handle the instrumentation safely with special attention to counts and personal safety as measured by direct supervisory observation and co-worker feedback.
  • Adheres to standards of practice as set forth in policy and guidelines to assure patient safety measured by direct supervisory observation and co-worker feedback.
  • Assists with the maintenance of inventory for assigned specialties as directed by ORT Coordinator or Team Leader as measured by direct supervisory observation and co-worker feedback.
  • Uses supplies and institutional resources in a financially responsible manner as measured by direct supervisory observation and co-worker feedback.
  • Differentiates sterilization methods required for specific instruments and equipment. Cares for items properly as measured by direct supervisory and co-worker feedback.
  • Works within the operating room structure to identify budget/replacement needs of surgical specialty supplies and equipment as measured by direct supervisory observation by either Team Leaders or ORT Coordinators.
  • Actively participates in product, supply, and instrument evaluation as directed with cost and quality considerations as measured by direct supervisory observation.
  • Maintains an orderly, clean, and safe work environment and personal appearance as measured by direct supervisory observation and patient and/or co-worker feedback.
  • Demonstrates knowledge through use of equipment and supplies used for the surgical procedure, measured by direct supervisory observation and co-worker feedback.
  • Functions within the legal and policy limits of individual responsibility measured by supervisory observation and co-worker feedback.
  • Assists in the training process of students or orientation of new personnel as directed. Measured by direct supervisory observation and co-worker feedback.
  • Assumes call duties as scheduled for staff that are assigned to the Main Campus. For those at the Regional ASCs and choose not to pull call, accepts periodic rotation to the Hospital to assure competency as measured by direct supervisory observation and co-worker feedback.
  • Participates in staffing patterns that reflect variable demands in service as measured by direct supervisory observation.

What we need from you

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED, required
  • Requires one of the following:
    • Successful completion of a nationally accredited education program for surgical technologists and holds and maintains a certified surgical
      technologist credential administered by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization, required OR
    • Has completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, required or
      Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, OR Provides evidence of employment as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring between 2011 and 2015; OR
    • Is in the service of the federal government, to the extent the person is performing duties related to a Surgical technologist. Received education in an accredited program for licensed practical nursing, required

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. About the Role The Certified Surgical Technologists is an allied health professional, who is an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients. POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Certified Surgical Technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative. procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Duties are as follows: STERILE PROCESSING DUTIES: Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies, and equipment, and assembles, wraps, and sterilizes trays of instruments. Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas. Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment. Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects, and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment. Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair, or replacement, and removes defective equipment. Maintains a clean work area.
