Job Summary:

This is a professional position responsible for the coordination of outpatient and inpatient services for Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca. This position will be responsible to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate services provided for patients. This position is dynamic and requires that the RN function as a procedure nurse as well as to support the clinical needs of all patients that utilize Imaging services at Main Campus, East Campus and Cayuga Park Campus. This person is responsible for linking the hospital and physicians by providing services for inpatients and outpatients. These services include but are not limited to preadmission nursing assessments, testing, care, and coordinating these inpatient and outpatient procedures with the physicians and/or other groups as appropriate. Also includes the post procedure care and assessment of the inpatient and outpatient procedure patients. Does related work as required. Promotes quality patient care by establishing and monitoring standards of care. May function as a designated charge nurse.

  • Maintain emergency readiness through daily, weekly and monthly emergency equipment checks. Equipment includes; Adult Crash Cart, Pediatric Broslow Cart, Narcotic Reversal Boxes, Contrast Reaction Boxes and emergency airway supplies in all patient care areas.
  • Provide nursing care before, during and after completion of a special procedure; IV access, blood sampling, pre and post assessments, medication management, monitoring, patient education, patient mobility support, nursing interventions as needed to deliver individualized care.
  • Respond to all clinical needs with the imaging departments of CHS Main Campus, East Campus and Cayuga Park.
  • Serve as an outward facing representative of the Imaging Department with regard to ordering provider office communication.
  • Perform pre-procedure and post-procedure education.

Job Responsibilities:


  1. Assessment
    1. Performs and documents an accurate assessment on each assigned patient within established standard of care.
    2. Identifies patient's immediate needs on admission.
    3. Assessment of patients discharge needs are completed on admission and is ongoing.
    4. Responds appropriately to changes in patient condition.
    5. Anticipates patient needs based on accurate assessment.
    6. Review of chart for pertinent information.

  1. Implementation
    1. Administers optimal patient care by providing physician with appropriate equipment and supplies for each procedure.
    2. Knowledge and ability to apply proper handling of supplies and equipment necessary for all Imaging procedures.
    3. Follows Universal Protocol procedure.
    4. Ability to handle any variation in the plan of care in a calm, efficient manner.
    5. Assist with positioning and prep of the patient.
    6. Helps out on other units of the hospital as the need arises.
    7. Maintains patient environment by stocking rooms and/or cleaning of equipment as assigned.
    8. Individualizes plans of care based on procedure.
    9. Anticipates patient's needs.
    10. Reinforce patient teaching within scope of practice.
    11. Promotes TEAM work with all co-workers.

  1. Evaluation
    1. Demonstrates ability to recognize and act on patient variances from established plan.
    2. Reassessment of patient condition is completed and documented according to standards and patient status. Any changes in condition are responded to quickly and appropriately.
    3. Reports to doctor any variation patients have from established plan or change in patient condition.
    4. Plans and organizes self to meet patient needs within shift and beyond as necessary.
    5. Ability to organize self to meet patient care requirements within scheduled shift.
    6. Coordinates multidisciplinary team to meet patient care needs.

    1. Completes documentation record at end of each case.
    2. Ability to obtain and/or input data into computer.
    3. Demonstrates accuracy in data collection with utilization of record and patient chart for:
      • H&P
      • Moderate Sedation paperwork.
      • Informed consent with signatures, date, and time.
      • Universal Protocol Checklist.

Requirements:

Experience - Previous cardiac or critical care nursing experience strongly encouraged. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Licensure - Current NYS Registered Nursing license

Certifications - Will obtain BLS during introductory period. ACLS certification must be obtained prior to completion of the introductory period.

Physical Requirements - Good dexterity and ability to stand in place for extended periods of time. Ability to move or lift patients with assistance.

Charge Nurse (RN)- Cayuga Addiction Recovery Services Ithaca Outpatient- Full Time- Days Position Summary: The Charge Nurse is a key clinical leader in the outpatient substance use treatment program, responsible for coordinating day-to-day patient flow, supervising nursing and support staff during clinical operations, and ensuring the safe and effective delivery of care-including Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). The Charge Nurse serves as the on-site resource for clinical problem-solving, staff support, and patient advocacy, helping to maintain a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed environment for individuals receiving treatment for substance use disorders. Key Responsibilities: Clinic Flow and Operations Oversee daily clinic operations to ensure efficient patient flow through triage, provider visits, counseling, MAT dosing, and discharge processes. Act as the point person for immediate problem-solving related to staffing, scheduling, room utilization, patient concerns, and operational barriers. Coordinate staffing assignments based on patient acuity, clinic volume, and available resources. Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Coordination Support the delivery of MAT services (e.g., buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone) by verifying medication orders, monitoring administration, and ensuring proper documentation. Monitor for safe medication storage, handling, and diversion prevention according to DEA and OASAS regulations. Assist with managing patient emergencies, such as overdose response, withdrawal symptoms, or medical crises related to MAT. Patient Advocacy and Communication Address patient concerns or complaints in real time with empathy, professionalism, and a trauma-informed approach. Advocate for patient needs with the interdisciplinary team to promote engagement and retention in treatment. Promote harm reduction, recovery support principles, and cultural sensitivity in all patient interactions. Compliance and Documentation Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) for all clinical services provided during the shift. Monitor clinic compliance with regulatory standards (OASAS, SAMHSA, DEA) and escalate concerns to the Nurse Manager. Assist with preparing for regulatory audits by maintaining high standards of clinical and medication documentation. Quality and Safety Support quality improvement initiatives by identifying barriers to care, patient safety issues, or opportunities for workflow enhancement. Report incidents, near misses, or patient grievances promptly and assist with immediate mitigation and documentation. Ensure safe clinical practices related to infection control, sharps management, medication administration, and patient monitoring. Qualifications: Required: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with the State of New York Minimum of 2 years clinical nursing experience, preferably in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or ambulatory care settings Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Preferred: Prior experience as a charge nurse, team lead, or preceptor Experience with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) protocols Familiarity with electronic health record systems (Epic preferred) Certification in Addiction Nursing (CARN) or Mental Health Nursing a plus Skills and Competencies: Strong clinical judgment and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, dynamic environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate teamwork and positive patient interactions Conflict resolution skills and ability to de-escalate challenging situations Knowledge of OASAS, DEA, and SAMHSA regulations pertaining to outpatient substance use treatment services Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally competent, and recovery-oriented care Location and Travel Requirements: Onsite- 334 West State Street, Ithaca NY 14850 Shift: 7:00-15:30 M-F and Saturday 7:30-13:00 Less than 25% Travel can be expected in this role Pay Range Disclosure: $37.63 to $47.18 per hour Cayuga Health System and its affiliates are committed to treating all patients, providers, staff, and volunteers equitably and with dignity, ensuring the highest levels of safety, care, and respect.
