Job Summary and Qualifications

Provides technical assistance to physician/registered nurse during surgical procedures. The surgical technologist functions in the role of Certified Surgical Technologist First Assistant after meeting credentialing criteria and carries out functions that will assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. The CSTFA practices under the supervision of the surgeon during the first assisting phase of the intraoperative role. The CSTFA does not function concurrently as a scrub during the CSTFA component of surgical patient care. The CSTFA also functions, when not first assisting, in the surgical technologist role.

Position Responsibilities for the surgical technologist: Works collaboratively with Registered Nurse to prepare patients for surgical procedures to include all specialties. The Surgical Technologist scrubs for the surgical procedures and performs a variety of other duties related to the preparation and maintenance of the operating room environment. Maintains inventory of necessary equipment and supplies.

Major Responsibilities: Organizes the operating suite with instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for the day. Reviews daily cases to ensure adequate stocking. Ensures proper functioning of equipment/instruments prior to procedures. Creates and maintains an orderly sterile instrument table. Utilizes physician preference cards for efficient setup. Prepares for emergency and add on cases rapidly and effectively. Transports patients to and from surgical suite as needed.
