Known for their excellent assessment skills, South Pointe Hospital’s Observation Unit provides care to and observes patients requiring expedited evaluation to determine the appropriate inpatient/outpatient intervention. As an RN on this team, you will assist fellow caregivers with providing exceptional care to patients from initial introduction to discharge. In this role, you will interact directly with patients, families and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare education as needed. A caregiver in this position works day/night rotation from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. with every other weekend and holiday rotation requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)  
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR American Red Cross
  • One-year of current acute care RN experience. Will consider military RN experience 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

Assist with specialized patient care equipment as required by the clinical research protocol. Administer medications and treatments as ordered by a physician or LIP. Direct, coordinate and participate in the evaluation & supervision of nursing care provided to research subjects, establishing patient care priorities and delegating nursing activities according to the patient needs and staff qualifications and capabilities. Conduct and document the informed consent process. Successfully complete certification in Human Subjects Research within 90 days or hire as required by the Responsible Conduct of Research Guidelines adopted by Cleveland Clinic. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) Four years clinical experience and two years research experience. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross Basic computer proficiency May need to work with minimal supervision at offsite facilities Any registered nurse or advanced practice nurse must obtain a cancer specific certification or demonstrate ongoing qualifying education within the timeframe of the facilities accreditation cycle, if they work in medical oncology, radiation oncology, cancer center or cancer clinic and/or administer chemotherapy within an accredited Cleveland Clinic facility Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) Oncology experience and/or research experience Med/Surg or ICU background Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
