Responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality, patient‑centered care in a busy Emergency Department
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage a broad spectrum of acute and urgent conditions
  • Perform appropriate procedures within scope
  • Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic studies
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Collaborate with ED physicians, hospitalists, and ancillary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes

Qualifications

  • Active NYS license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience required
  • Prior Emergency Department or urgent care experience strongly preferred
  • Strong critical thinking, decision‑making, and procedural skills
  • Excellent communication and patient‑care abilities
  • Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment

Nurse Practitioner-Emergency Care Center- PD- Shift

Kern Medical has been a community cornerstone since its founding in 1867. Today, we are an acute care teaching center with 222 beds, offering the only advanced trauma care between Fresno and Los Angeles. Kern Medical offers a range of primary, specialty, and multi-specialty services including high-risk pregnancy care, inpatient psychiatric services integrated with county mental health programs, and a growing network of outpatient clinics providing personalize patient-centered wellness care. Kern Medical cares for 15,000 inpatients and 125,000 clinic patients a year. Per Diem employees supplement department staffing needs, with no guarantee of minimum hours. Must be willing and available to work four (4) shifts per six (6) week scheduling period. Position: Nurse Practitioner-Emergency Care Center- PD- Shift Distinguishing Characteristics : Incumbents in this classification have advanced training which allows them to provide primary care on both an episodic and short-term basis to defined patient populations under the supervision of a licensed physician. Essential Functions : Interviews patients to obtain medical histories and performs examinations; Orders specified diagnostic tests; diagnoses and prescribes treatment for common illnesses; Performs screenings or diagnostic procedures including, but not limited to, audiometry, breast examinations, pelvic examinations, Pap smears and tonometry; Educates patients about common medical, social and psychological conditions; Dependent upon area of practice or department assignments, demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in the care of the newborn, infant, toddler, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient ranging up to 100+ years of age Other Functions: Performs other job services under the supervision of a licensed physician, as permitted by standardized protocols and with the scope of their licensure.
