The Opportunity

Seeking Emergency Medicine physician assistants and nurse practitioners.
One year of EM experience required.
Current national certification, DEA, and BLS are required.
ACLS and PALS are preferred.
Current NY state license is a plus.

Level I Trauma Center, STEMI Receiving Center, and Comprehensive Stroke Center.
650-bed facility with 43-bed Emergency Department
All sub-specialties available for backup.
Annual ED volume of 33,000 with approximately 100 patients per day.

The fellowship includes clinical and didactic curricula designed to provide a solid foundation in the management of critically ill patients. Our rotations provide APP fellows with exposure to a wide variety of complex disease processes with rotations in the medical, surgical, trauma, and neurological critical care units. The curriculum includes protected academic time for didactics, simulation-based learning experiences, procedural training, and journal club. The PA or NP fellow practices under the general supervision of a physician. Their scope of practice includes: obtaining a complete medical history; performing a physical examination; ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies; formulating a diagnosis and treatment plan; prescribing and/or dispensing medication; assisting in surgery or other invasive procedures; and counseling patients and families under supervision of a physician. In addition, the PA or NP fellow is required to participate in a program of instruction provided by the Fellowship Program and is expected to satisfy the academic requirement of this Program, as determined by the Program Director and the Medical Director. Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS, Nurse Practitioner-NYS, Basic Life Support Cert Preferred Qualifications: Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS, PALS) through the American Heart Association or Neonatal Resuscitation certification (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics may be required based on your selected privileges. At least five years of clinical nursing practice in the care of the patient population served; ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion, which addresses patient/family safety and satisfaction. Previous experience as a nurse practitioner is preferred. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, creative problem solving and excellent critical thinking and leadership; previously demonstrated ability to facilitate group processes and work cohesively and collaboratively as member of the interdisciplinary team; Effective change agent.
