Surgical Technologist Certified- Weekend

Responsible for providing surgical assistance in the operating room under the direction of a registered nurse or other designated operating room supervisor and assisting with departmental support activities following hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and standards of care.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and sets up operating room.
  • Assists surgical team during operative procedures.
  • Performs terminal cleaning of operating rooms between cases.
  • Completes and maintains records, reports, and other documentation related to the work, including risk management and performance improvement reports.
  • Participates in cost containment and quality assurance programs.

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of a Surgical Technologist program or equivalent experience.
  • BLS certification as Healthcare Provider or equivalent through the Military Training Network (MTN).
  • Certified by the National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). Formerly Liaison Council on Certification of Surgical Technologist.

Preferred:

  • One year of surgical technologist experience.

Arrange and inventories sterile set-up for operation and passes items as needed to the surgical team. Understand and apply the principles of asepsis. Establish and maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment. Assist in preparation and moving of patients. Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation. Assists with clean-up and room turnover. Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images. Participates in all safety initiatives. Adheres to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives. QUALIFICATIONS: Accredited Program of Surgical Technology. or recognized course of training as a Surgical Technologist preferred Surgical Technologist experience in full-service OR preferred Required: Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration Required: Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support Certification Working conditions Lifting Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH). This role may vary considerably with the surgical operation, specialty area and type of facility.” The Surgical First Assistant demonstrates advanced knowledge of normal and pathological anatomy and physiology. Essential Functions And Responsibilities Certification as a surgical technologist which provides evidence of meeting national standards in the performance of duties which demonstrates the capability of training new Colleagues/orientees. Scrubs for cases according to established sterile procedures and changes into appropriate operative attire; dons sterile gown and gloves and assist surgeon with same. Assists surgeon with draping of patient maintaining sterile technique. Provides visualization of the operative site during the operative procedure. Assists in providing hemostasis to the surgeon. Passes instruments, sponges, sutures and other sterile supplies and equipment as needed. Expedites the operative procedure by anticipating the needs of the surgeon Receives surgical specimens, places in appropriate container and fixative (if required) at end of procedure. Counts sponges, needles and instruments according to MNM policy 301700. Cleans surgical suite according to established protocol ensuring that all disposable items are placed in the appropriate bags, i.e. Biohazard Red bags for any items containing blood or body fluids.
