Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Shift Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the employees, departments and operations of the facility on the evening and night shifts. This encompasses excellence and quality in patient care delivery, fiscal responsibility, management, and leadership of the evening and night shifts staff. Collaboration will be maintained with clinical directors, managers, and the medical staff to provide the highest quality or care for our residents, clients, and patients. Proactive customer service through positive interaction with families, visitors, and the community will be a high priority. Involved in continuous performance improvement, staff monitoring, problem-solving, and resource utilization.  Excellent interpersonal skills, problem identification, and resolution abilities are essential.

Essential Job Functions

Patient Care Clinical Expertise & Leadership

  • Responsible for assessing and implementing daily operations to provide the most effective, efficient and highest quality patient/resident care.
  • Responsible to ensure delivery of services accomplished through collaboration with colleagues in all disciplines and within the clinical standards of practice.

Personnel Management and Team Building  

  • Directs and monitors operations/activities of staff to ensure assignments are carried out in accordance with Mercy Core Values, established practices, standards and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Collaboration with the clinical director, manager, team leaders, and human resources in evaluating performance.
  • Motivates staff to work successfully as a team; assisting staff in critical thinking, decision making process and ownership.

Fiscal Management

  • Responsible for human resources management practice as guided in the policy and procedure manual.
  • Maintains and is accountable for daily operations in accordance with overall institutional budgetary objectives.

Quality Management

Identifies process improvements and develops techniques to gather, analyze, and implement improved processes focused on the customer

Education Qualifications  

Required Minimum Education:

2 Year/ Associates Degree

Specialty/Major:

Nursing

Preferred Education:

4 year/ Bachelors Degree

Licensure/Certification Required:

Current nursing license in the State of Ohio and/or Kentucky

Licensure/Certification Preferred:                                                                                          

  • BLS, ACLS, PALS and any other unit specific certification requirement
  • Hold national certification in clinical specialty or leadership within 6 months of eligibility

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Years and Type of Experience: Minimum one year experience as a Charge Nurse
