Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Certified Obstetric Surgical Technologist at HCA Healthcare, you’ll be a valued part of a highly collaborative team that is passionate about delivering newborns safely and with the highest standards of care, while honoring each professional’s skills and expertise in obstetrics and surgery. You’ll prepare the surgical suite, support the team during procedures, and ensure every patient receives compassionate care. Your responsibilities will include:

Preparing the surgical suite and organizing instruments, equipment, and supplies to support safe, efficient procedures
Assisting with patient positioning, prepping, and draping while maintaining comfort, privacy, and safety
Providing instruments, equipment, and hands-on support to the surgical team during obstetric procedures
Maintaining a sterile field, performing counts, and ensuring instruments and equipment function properly
Working closely with the surgical team to deliver patient-centered care and a seamless surgical experience

What qualifications you will need:

Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
(CST) Certified Surgical Technologist

When functioning as a Tech First Assistant (Tech III), demonstrated knowledge of surgical assisting and closure. What you will do in this role: Demonstrates knowledge of applying surgical gloves using aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field. Demonstrates knowledge of preparing for surgery by “pulling” the appropriate supplies and instruments for the procedure. Understands and recognizes the different surgical instruments and their applications. Displays appropriate knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology to prepare and assist in surgical procedures. Maintains a safe sterile field by a – positioning sharps correctly b – labeling all medications on sterile field c – understanding of electrocautery and other devices that generate heat to prevent possible fires in the O.R. d – Participating in a “timeout” with rest of the surgical team to maintain patient safety. Demonstrates ability to appropriately set up for a surgical procedure and follow protocol in the counting of supplies/instrument to ensure no foreign object is left inside of the patient. Understands the principles of and can competently assist a surgeon during a procedure and possesses adequate knowledge of the procedure itself. Displays the ability to differentiate sutures and their applications. Demonstrates the ability to close a surgical site (under physician supervision) with appropriate suture. Demonstrates a teamwork approach in the care of a patient during the perioperative phase. What qualifications you will need: (CST) Certified Surgical Technologist Basic Cardiac Life Support, or CPR is Required.
