Job Summary:
The LPN is responsible for providing nursing care to the patient under the direction of a physician or health care provider in a Multi-Specialty Clinic.
Functions and Duties:
- Assists physicians with patient office visits, including putting patients in rooms, interviewing patients, recording vital signs including pulse rate, blood pressure, height and weight, and enters information in patient’s electronic medical record.
- Performs select clinical tests, manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
- Administers and documents medication under physician’s order.
- Performs office visits and completes appropriate documentation in patient’s electronic medical record.
- Assists physicians with office based procedures and office based procedures under anesthesia by participating in time out procedure; providing pre and post-operative care; assists physician during actual procedure.
- Observes, records, and reports changes in patients’ condition.
- Labeling and processing patient specimens as needed, including tracking specimens in appropriate logs.
- Organizes exam rooms, including general cleaning, upkeep, and re-stocking of supplies.
- Responsible for collecting equipment for a procedure; assisting during the procedure or examination; and cleaning up afterward.
- Fields patient telephone calls and responds accordingly.
- Demonstrates appropriate hand washing technique to insure proper infection control and follows universal precautions.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Responsible for collecting specimens, such as urine, or performing phlebotomy duties to obtain blood for lab tests.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school for licensed practicing nurses.
Experience
- 6 – 12 months of professional nursing experience in a clinical setting preferred.
- Experience with Athena EMR and/or Citrix EMR preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
- Current Illinois LPN licensure.
- CPR certification.
Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of IL healthcare standards and procedures.
- Ability to use and strong knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMRs).
- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care according to individual needs.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (mask, gown, gloves) when required.
- Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. May be required with assistance to push someone in a wheelchair.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
