About the Role:
The Registered Nurse - Operating Room plays a critical role in delivering high-quality perioperative care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This position involves preparing the operating room environment, assisting surgical teams during operations, and ensuring patient safety throughout the surgical process. The nurse collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate efficient and effective surgical interventions. Additionally, the role requires vigilant monitoring of patients’ vital signs and responses during surgery, as well as providing post-operative care and education. Ultimately, the nurse contributes to positive surgical outcomes by maintaining strict adherence to clinical protocols and fostering a sterile, organized, and supportive operating room environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
- Completion of an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Prior experience or clinical training in perioperative nursing or operating room settings.
- Strong knowledge of sterile techniques, surgical instruments, and operating room protocols.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) credential.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems specific to surgical care.
- Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, high-pressure surgical environments.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies according to the specific procedure requirements.
- Assist surgeons and surgical teams during operations by anticipating needs, passing instruments, and maintaining a sterile field.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and overall condition throughout the surgical procedure, promptly reporting any abnormalities or concerns.
- Collaborate with anesthesiology and recovery teams to ensure seamless patient transitions before, during, and after surgery.
- Document all perioperative care activities accurately and maintain compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Educate patients and their families on preoperative and postoperative care instructions to promote recovery and prevent complications.
- Participate in ongoing training and quality improvement initiatives to enhance surgical nursing practices and patient safety.
