Job Description:

Position Summary

Under the leadership of the department director and the supervision of an RN, the Surgical Technologist is responsible and accountable for working intra-operatively in the preparation and handling of supplies and equipment to maintain a safe and therapeutic surgical environment for the patients in accordance with the policies and procedures of the hospital and department. Important dimensions of this position consist of quality of care, professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, good public/customer relations and a broad professional knowledge.

Experience

A minimum of one year scrub experience as a Surgical Technologist in an acute care hospital or multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center preferred. 

Education

Graduate of a surgical technologist training program strongly preferred. Will consider extensive hospital surgical technologist experience in lieu of graduate of training program.

Licensure/Certifications

American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS is required. Surgical Technologist certification is strongly preferred.

The Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) offers advanced outpatient surgery, allowing patients to return home soon after their procedure without the need for overnight stays. Surgical Technologists, sometimes called “scrub techs”, assist in surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons and Registered Nurses. They help to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and maintain a sterile field. Surgical Technologists perform a variety of functions, such as checking supplies and equipment, setting up sterile tables, performing appropriate counts, draping the sterile field, passing instruments to the surgeon and assistant during the procedure, preparing sterile dressing and cleaning instruments for terminal sterilization. This is a great hands-on learning opportunity that will allow you to enhance your skills each and every day. This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working days between 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. with extended hours on the weekend. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Perform scrub functions and assist in circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN). Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available. Assist RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery. Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients. Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure. Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.” Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition.
