The Nurse Supervisor provides supervision of all patient care areas I the hospital.  The Nurse Supervisor is required to have a working knowledge of hospital and nursing policies and procedures and the ability to apply independent judgement in their interpretation.  The Nurse Supervisor duties include the provision of managerial and clinical links between the Director of Nursing and/or Nurse manager and department direction in their absence.  The Nurse Supervisor promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.  The Nurse Supervisor also meets the requirements and essential functions of the Registered Nurse as indicated below:

 

The Nurse Supervisor assumes primary leadership accountability and responsibility for milieu management and directing patient care activities of other nursing staff.  The Nurse Supervisor maintains standards of professional nursing practice in accordance with facility policy and procedures, other external governing and credentialing bodies, performance improvement standards, and psychiatric nursing standards.  The Nurse Supervisor assesses the patient utilizing the nursing process to formulate an individualized plan of care for each patient, implements interventions, and evaluates outcomes consistent with policy and appropriate to the current client’s condition, which promote, maintain, and restore physical and mental health, and prevent illness.  The Nurse Supervisor interprets age/disability specific information in response to client population served.  The Nurse Supervisor provides for the safe delivery of medication in accordance with the policies and procedures, physicians orders and/or current practice.  The Nurse Supervisor is responsible for thorough, accurate reporting, and documentation of the patient’s symptoms, responses, and progress.  The Nurse Supervisor assumes responsibility for professional development, continuing education and maintaining licensure.  All duties to be done in accordance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans' Mission, policies and procedures and Performance Improvement Standards.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Assesses patient care requirements on each unit by making rounds throughout all areas of the hospital (according to departmental need/activity)
  2. Ensure the departmental staffing plans are implemented appropriately.
  3. Serve as a resource to staff for solving clinical problems.
  4. Assist staff to efficiently utilize staffing and other resources to meet patient care requirements and other professional responsibilities.
  5. Provide for immediate follow-up, documentation and communication of incidents to the appropriate manager and director.
  6. Respond to emergency situations and assists as necessary.
  7. Act as a resource in identifying and/or solving administrative/operational problems.
  8. Contact representatives of departments not presently in the hospital for assistance with problem solving, timely and appropriately.
  9. Act as a resource, interpret and ensure adherence to hospital and nursing philosophy, policies and procedures.
  10. Report to the administrator-on-call or DON/Nurse Manager any significant incidents and problems such as unusual patient/family problems or concerns, physician concerns, major damage or utility outages, security problems, public relations or media events, fire, disaster, matters of legal importance, calls received from regulatory bodies, or safety issues.
  11. Provide on-going timely feedback, verbal and written, to staff on performance in collaboration with DON/Nurse Manager.  Assist with providing information necessary for conducting nursing personnel performance evaluations.
  12. Identify and communicate staff needs for continuing education to the DON/Nurse Manager.
  13. Provide education, remediation, and assessment of skills competencies as directed by the DON/Nurse Manager.
  14. Monitor documentation for adherence to rules and regulations.
  15. Ensure environment of care requirements are met (ie: quality logs, infection control practices, etc)
  16. Utilizes the nursing process: assessing, planning, and formulating nursing interventions directed towards development of an individualized plan of care and treatment modalities.
  17. Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the client to include discharge planning; prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes; evaluates the effectiveness of interventions in relation to expected outcomes; conducts ongoing assessment of clients from admission to discharge;  initiates medical/psychiatric crisis intervention to stabilize and ensure the well-being of the patient's conditions.
  18. Provides individual patient teaching on all identified learning needs; facilitates in Family/Significant other education.
  19. Demonstrates knowledge of psychiatric disorders and appropriate nursing interventions; implements nursing interventions identified in the plan of care that is individualized to the patient needs.  Applies appropriate interventions to progress the patient towards wellness and addresses maintenance of wellness.
  20. Provides structure and maintains a therapeutic milieu in collaboration with the patient and other health care providers.
  21. Administers medications as prescribed safely; provides education on prescribed medications; recognizes signs and symptoms of adverse drug reactions.
  22. Reviews, revises, and updates medical records within facility guidelines and timeframes.  Transcribes and implements physician's orders according to facility policy; documents care, progress, response to intervention in medical record in an accurate, thorough and concise manner.
  23. Follows up on client care responsibilities, communicates incomplete assignments, and current client needs to staff to assure continuity of care.
  24. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Job Description The staff nurse provides direct nursing care to patients of all ages who have undergone surgical intervention requiring post anesthesia care with emphasis placed on airway management and circulation. Responsibilities Clinical Practice and Care Management Involves the patient and/or family in the utilization of processes which respects patients rights. Prepares for the care, safety, comfort and privacy of the patient in accordance with their individual needs. Completes an age specific physical, biological and psychological assessment of the patient for infant, toddler, preschooler, school age, adolescent, adult, and older adult in the holding area. Identifies critical elements for each age group using the following tools: chart review patient observation patient/family interview communication with other team members (health care providers) reaffirmation of patient identification verification of surgical procedure patient/familys understanding of procedure analyzes and reports abnormal assessment to anesthesia/surgeon Reassesses the patient upon transfer to OR and accommodates patients changing needs.
