Emerald Coast Behavioral Hospital provides inpatient treatment services to adolescents and adults at our 86-bed facility in Panama City, FL and outpatient services to adolescents and adults at our four outpatient centers located throughout the Florida Panhandle.  Additionally, we offer specialized treatment for active duty military members through our Military Resiliency Program, specialized chemical dependency treatment and TMS therapy for chronic depression.

 Job Duties:

  • Conducts complete nursing assessment of all admissions including risk assessments (SAO, elopement, assault, suicide); educational needs, and medication review. Completes all required nursing documents within established time frame. 
  • Actively participates in treatment team meetings & decisions, collects & includes data in care plan updates, assesses patient needs, designs and implements programs, and documents / evaluates patient responses.
  • Documents nursing care and treatment progression through timely & accurate chart entries & nursing treatment plan updates.  Completes treatment plans as per policy.  Appropriately notify Physician of changes in condition and other patient issues, as per policy.  
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care and the milieu. Appropriately monitors patients through detox, including CIWA and COWS assessments. 
  • Provides oversight of completion of physician orders, including labs, EKG’s and x-rays.
  • Ensures that medication & treatment are administered as prescribed and that documentation reflects the care provided.  Completes medication consents from patient or guardian, as per policy.
  • Provides leadership, supervision, and direction to Mental Health Technicians and LPNs. Provides oversight of q15 observations as evidenced by signatures on q15 observation rounding’sConducts rounds.
  • Provides and directs milieu management. Actively assist nurses and MHT’s, keeping safety foremost.  
  • May need to assist patients with personal hygiene and ADLs as needed.  May provide q15 observation round coverage at times. 
  • Assessesdirects and intervenes in crisis situations.  Recognizes escalation and takes preventive steps to reduce incidence of restraint and seclusion.  
  • Provides and documents patient and family education.  Leads nurse education groups and completes documentation.    
  • Initiates and accounts for Special Treatment Procedures.   
  • Provides a thorough and accurate report to the oncoming shift and completes an appropriate hand-off of the patients and q15 observation forms.  
  • Manages and orders unit supplies for patient activities and non-group time that support a positive therapeutic environment.    
  • Completes chart checks as assigned. 
  • Floats to other units as assigned.   
  • Serves as a mentor and trainer to new employees.
  • May be assigned to perform Mental Health Technician (MHT) and/or 1:1 duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.

Responsibilities Assessment Specialist - Registered Nurse (RN) PRN Opportunity This PRN opportunity offers flexible scheduling with a low minimum shift requirement of three (3) shifts per month. Initiates a collection and assessment of information for payers; completes pre-certification and continued stay authorization. Works with and serves as back-up to utilization review. Job Duties/Responsibilities: Conducts telephone triage activities. Receives telephone inquiry and crisis calls and determines appropriate disposition for emergency services, clinical crisis assessment, and referral to community resources and/or agencies. Facilitates admission to hospital based programs by communication with Program Coordinator, attending Physicians and completes pre-certification procedures. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN Resident provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The RN Resident serves as an advocate for patients, families and caregivers to support an unparalleled patient experience. What will you do in this role: Assess patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status. Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner. Perform the administration of prescribed medications. Monitor patient for therapeutic response. Notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication. Perform exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strive to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively. Teach patients, families and caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding. What qualifications you will need: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 1 year of employment Other Certifications maybe required during employment Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse in the State No previous experience needed Some travel maybe needed for training HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital is a 238-bed acute care hospital.
