JOB DESCRIPTION:

Assists in the care and preparation of the surgical patient. Functions as a member of the surgical team creating and maintaining a sterile field. Knowledgeable about instruments, supplies and equipment used during a surgical procedure. Understands the procedure being performed and has the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs. Provides care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.

EDUCATION

  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program required.    

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum one-year recent surgical experience preferred.

LICENSURE/CREDENTIALS

  • Current Washington State registration as a Surgical Technologist required. 
  • Current national certification as a Surgical Technologist required.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Major Responsibilities: Organizes the operating suite with instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for the day. Reviews daily cases to ensure adequate stocking. Ensures proper functioning of equipment/instruments prior to procedures. Creates and maintains an orderly sterile instrument table. Utilizes physician preference cards for efficient setup. Prepares for emergency and add on cases rapidly and effectively. Transports patients to and from surgical suite as needed. Assists in the transfer, positioning, prepping, and draping of patients for surgical procedures in accordance with hospital standards. Performs and/or assists in scrub/gown/glove process for self and team.
