RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Rooms patients, takes and documents vital signs and prepares patients for provider
  • Ensures completion of all necessary paperwork for both new-patient intake and established-patient follow-up.
  • Reviews providers’ refill in-basket and assists with queueing up medication requests and routing to provider for approval.
  • Reviews EMR system triage in-basket for any
  • Reviews result note in basket and calling /informing patients of normal lab results.
  • Coordinates pharmacogenomic testing and
  • Helps plan, organize, and direct the Pediatric Behavioral Health Department’s clinic and administrative support functions.
  • Coordinates and streamlines the overall processes for the Behavioral Health
  • Contacts patients who are overdue for follow-up to assist with scheduling and address any barriers.
  • Follows up by phone or letter with at-risk patients to help keep them connected to
  • Coordinates and manages provider
  • Helps connect patients to community
  • Coordinates care with other care team
  • Ensures rooms are properly stocked and supplies are current and within expiration
  • Administers medication under physicians’ direction and within the scope of practice as demonstrated by completion of training and testing.
  • Performs diagnostic testing such as EKGs, audiograms, typanograms, spirometry, and visual screenings as instructed, and documents in EMR system.
  • Reviews provider refill in-basket and assists with daily
  • Posts patient test results through patient’s MyChart
  • Cleans patient rooms as needed, including proper handling of dirty linens.
  • Refills medication per ARC refill
  • When needed, assists providers with procedures by setting up equipment, assisting with patient preparation, and cleaning and storing equipment after exam. Obtains applicable consents and completes all necessary documentation in EMR system.
  • When needed, maintains equipment (autoclaves, sterilizes, washes speculums, checks expiration dates, etc.).
  • May answer incoming phone calls to triage and may:
  • Determine if the call is low acuity or high acuity by demonstrating strong listening
  • Continue to assist patient in a non-clinical situation if applicable.
  • Forward to the appropriate clinical staff member on duty if clinical intervention is needed.
  • Track and handle: ADD symptoms and questions, medication refill requests, referral questions, requests for copies of lab or immunization records, requests for lab releasing to MyChart, lab results that are signed-off by the provider, general calls from pharmacies, and medication not covered by patient insurance.
  • Utilizes the smart phrases when taking phone messages and when routing directly to the
  • May train new employees
  • May assist in scheduling staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

 EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Required to meet one of the following:
    • Medical Assistant experience, or
    • CNA/EMT/PCT(or other comparable experience) providing direct patient care, beyond Activities of Daily Living, including experience taking manual vitals and giving medications and/or injections, or
    • Graduate of a medical assistant program.

    Preferred:

    • Six (6) months or more experience as a Medical Assistant.
    • Experience working in a behavioral health practice.

     Certificate/License

      • Medical Assistant certification preferred.
      • Current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card or within 60 days of hire required.

The MA-NCT or Limited Medical Radiologic Technologist prepares for and performs standard x-ray examinations, while using proper technique and positioning per provider orders. Additional back-office duties as assigned.
