Shift/Hours: Full-Time, 40 hours per week

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts; occasional Saturday coverage as needed for clinic call-offs (infrequent) 

Location: Multi-site position – supporting various Cincinnati Children’s Ambulatory Subspecialty Clinics (specific site assignments to be determined; flexibility required)

Cincinnati Children’s is seeking an experienced and collaborative Registered Nurse Clinical Manager to provide leadership and operational oversight across multiple Ambulatory Subspecialty Clinics. This position plays a key role in advancing clinical excellence, ensuring safe, high-quality care delivery, and supporting staff development in a fast-growing and dynamic ambulatory environment. 

About the Role

The Clinical Manager will partner with site leaders, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to support daily operations, promote standardization of practice, and foster a positive, team-oriented culture.

Our Ambulatory Nursing team continues to grow rapidly, expanding services to meet the needs of children and families across the region. The specific locations supported by this position will be determined based on organizational priorities and may evolve over time. Current sites include Liberty, Mason, Eastgate, CVH, Union, Green Township, Batesville, Louisville, Centerville, and Maysville, with the addition of a new Site-Based Resource team at the Burnet (Main) Campus. We are seeking a leader who is passionate about people, process, and patient care—someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and embraces growth and change. 

Key Responsibilities

Provide leadership and direction for nursing and clinical operations across assigned ambulatory subspecialty sites.

Support patient care delivery, staff engagement, and operational efficiency across multiple clinic locations.

Ensure adherence to Cincinnati Children’s policies, standards of care, and regulatory requirements.

Partner with clinic leadership to monitor staffing needs, patient flow, and scheduling to ensure optimal coverage.

Lead performance improvement initiatives focused on quality, safety, and patient experience.

Mentor and coach clinical staff, fostering professional growth and accountability.

Provide Saturday clinic coverage when needed for unexpected call-offs (rare occurrence).

Collaborate with leadership to align clinic operations with the organization’s strategic goals and initiatives. 

Qualifications

Active RN license in the State of Ohio, and willingness to apply for multistate RN license

Bachelor’s degree in nursing required; master’s degree preferred.

Minimum of five years of nursing experience, including three years in a leadership or supervisory role.

Strong leadership, communication, and critical-thinking skills.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to evolving needs.

Experience in an ambulatory or outpatient specialty setting preferred.

Ability and willingness to travel between Cincinnati Children’s ambulatory sites as needed.

  • Compliance - Managers will maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Managers will follow the guidance of their Directors in the development and implementation of corrective action plans. Partner with department leaders of Center for Professional Excellence (CPE) and Accreditation Services to improve staff performance, compliance and documentation. Assure all reporting staff have required competence, education and their clinical performance represents standards of compliance. Enhance relationships to promote interdisciplinary involvement and knowledge of compliance standards, status, and actions. Managers facilitate the knowledge and actions of their employees with appropriate policies and standards of performance.
  • Operations - Serve as a point of contact and resource for the daily operations. Research and resolve operational questions and problems as they arise. Serve as a resource to staff in the resolution of complex issues and concerns. Provide oversight and guidance in the day to day patient staffing. Evaluate and adjust resource allocation based on patient needs and system factors. Establish and maintain procedures for orientation of new employees. Assure integration of annual operational goals into daily practice. Address problem trends, develop, plan and implement solutions to improve processes and work flow for both individuals and systems for which teams work. Provide oversight and evaluation of clinical practices, patient outcomes and all practices associated with safety and quality patient care. The Clinical Manager will be competent to support patient care delivery for their area as needed.
  • Project Management - Provide leadership for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, and completion of specific projects. Assure alignment of developing projects with organizational priorities and strategic plan. Develop project plans resource allocation, and timeline. Manage the day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope. May direct assigned project team ensuring effective utilization of resources. Reports on progress of the project to all stakeholders. Provides detailed organizational communication plans when clinical operations are impacted. Integrate principles of inclusion throughout projects and daily operations.
  • Financial Management - Engage with the day to operations that impact productivity. Conduct analysis, partner with others in decisions around resource allocation and recognize the impact of decisions on productivity. In collaboration with director; develop, implement and evaluate the department's annual operating and capital budget to achieve the organizational and departmental objectives. Analyze and monitor financial performance and assist in the reporting of financial results. Evaluate variances, determine underlying causes, and establish proposed solutions.

Provides clinical practice leadership for the operation of specified patient services departments dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents. Provide direct support and oversight of clinical practice, coordination of patient care delivery, coaching and development of staff, and manage the work environment.

Responsible for the staffing for patient care delivery in the ambulatory clinics, including management of work assignments, overtime, budget and ratio targets through assigned staff, float requests and flexible scheduling. Accountable for implementing and sustaining operations of current and new initiatives that impact the growth and development of site and service lines. Assists with enforcing Joint Commission and regulatory standards at site(s). Ensures staff are aware and comply with MetroHealth patient care practices, clinical quality initiatives, and human resources policies. Implements site operations initiatives, standards, and professional development for all personnel under their direction. Serve as a role model, and an on-site resource person for patient or practice concerns. Works collaboratively with service line and support staff on deployment, onboarding and in identifying opportunities for new or revised programs to ensure access, service line growth as well as an effective, high quality, skilled and motivated workforce. Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s Degree in a Healthcare related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in addition to the experience stated below. Four years of combined progressively responsible clinical and management experience in an ambulatory or inpatient setting. Understanding of financial reporting, including P&L. Excellent interpersonal skills along with experience in working with multi-disciplinary groups. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent critical thinking and analytical aptitude. Demonstrates strong interpersonal, verbal/written communication and delegation and problem-solving skills. Preferred Master’s degree in Healthcare related field. Experience in planning and analysis, financial management and/or marketing experience along with the related work experience that applies to the specific practice. Understanding of Lean management process improvement EPIC template management and experience with the operation of health care computer systems. Clinical and operational experience at one or more MetroHealth ambulatory sites. Physical Demands: May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. Finger dexterity to operate PC keyboard. Ability to hear normal voice sounds. Ability to see computer monitor, nursing schedules, and reports. Travel to sites within The MetroHealth System ambulatory network.
