The Unit Manager, reporting to the Director of Nursing, is responsible for overseeing and coordinating nursing care for patients/residents on the unit. This role combines direct patient care responsibilities with leadership, supervision, and administrative duties.


Key Responsibilities

Care Oversight:

Ensures all patient assessments, care plans, and evaluations are completed accurately, timely, and in compliance with regulations.

Care Planning & Coordination:

Leads the interdisciplinary team, ensuring care plans are developed, communicated, and followed effectively.

Quality & Compliance Monitoring:

Conducts daily rounds to ensure care standards, safety protocols, infection control, and facility policies are consistently followed.

Staff Supervision & Leadership:

Manages unit operations, assigns duties, supports staff, and ensures proper communication among team members and supervisors.

Patient Care & Safety:

Ensures respectful, timely, and appropriate care delivery, including proper use of equipment and adherence to safety procedures.

Documentation & Medication Management:

Oversees accurate documentation, monitors medication administration, and ensures compliance with pharmacy and regulatory standards.

Education & Communication:

Ensures patients, families, and staff receive proper education and that all relevant information is communicated promptly.

Professionalism & Team Relations:

Maintains high ethical standards, confidentiality, positive relationships, and a collaborative work environment.

Resource & Cost Management:

Monitors supplies and equipment usage, ensuring efficient and cost-effective operations.



Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited nursing program

Active nursing license in the state

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in acute and long-term care
